Well, the new year hasn't started off too auspicious- my daughter went to a party/sleepover and I got roused out of bed to go get her, as whatever she'd eaten last night didn't agree with her. As fuzzy-minded as I was, I still remembered to grab a plastic bag in case she needed to barf on the way home. My instincts proved correct. Also, my dryer stopped working so I need to drive my wet laundry around to my folks' house to use theirs. What a way to start the year. EDIT: Why do I have a smiley attachment??? Attachments:

Oh no, that's not the start to the year you want! Hope your daughter has recovered and good work saving the car upholstery. One of my proudest parenting moments was many years ago when my then young son came down with a stomach bug on a long car journey. Using some bags I luckily had in the car (as we were on a trip), I managed to catch every single drop as he repeatedly heaved throughout the trip. Result!
I've no idea why the smilie has been added as an attachment - did you even use that one or is it a completely random edition? Maybe that can be the third thing, if bad things come in three, and then you're free?!

I'm certain I must have clicked on something by accident; it's not as if I've been running into any technical issues with the board itself. My parents gave me the number of a repairman they trust, and I thought I could leave things to my wife, but unfortunately I have to make the call. This in itself isn't a bad thing, but she wants precise numbers for repairs and if she doesn't like them, she'll just insist we buy a new dryer. This isn't bad in itself, either, but having to set up a call, having to relay info and then calling to cancel is a pain. I dislike being the middle person in these dealings when my wife should just handle it herself. She works from hom and has time to deal with this. I have to go in early tomorrow and can't make the initial call until I get home.

Yes, if your wife is the one with the ideas about what she will/ won't have repaired, and has specific things she wants to know, then it'd make much more sense if she made the call and cut out the middle man! You're a patient man.
I know a couple of people who get their partners to make calls like that, even though they're the one who has firmer ideas of what they want and will be making the decision about that matter. But in those cases it's a confidence/ anxiety issue of not wanting to make calls - it's easier for them to boss their long suffering partner around than negotiate with a stranger. But I don't sense confidence is the issue with your wife!

Happy New Year!
Oh, I am one of those people that absolutely hate making or answering phone calls. If i don't recognize the number and i don't expect a call, i won't answer it  When it is to calling, if i can delegate it to my hubby, all is perfect. I avoid making a call unless it is absolutely necessary (like the docs here in Denmark). At some point hubby even had to call the ambulance service in my name, and explain, second-hand, what was going on. When i was a child, mom punished me to be on phone service for a month...i had to answer all phone calls to our household. Ugh!

If I don't recognize a phone number, I ignore it as well. If it's important, they'll leave a voicemail, which I'll check daily.
I did try calling the repair place, but I got a message stating I need to leave my name, number, city I live in, problem with my appliance, make of appliance, model number and serial number and they'll get back to me on Monday... which is today. (Apparently this is their holiday message which hasn't been updated.)
That's a mouthful, and it appears they're behind schedule. I want to talk to a person since my wife has conditions, so I will try calling again tomorrow.

Ugh! I'd find having to answer all the phone calls a real punishment, too My mother was a real estate agent, and had her own business in our house. We only had one phone number, so most of the calls were business calls for her. I'd answer the phone, and the callers would just start talking, as if I were her. They probably figured they were calling a business number. It was hard to nicely break into the flow of conversation to tell them I wasn't her, but that I would take a message. Hubby hates to talk on the phone, though he's getting better at it. He'd always have me make the calls, then not give me all the information I needed to get the job done, sigh. I finally refused to make those repair parts calls for him because of that. I don't answer calls I don't recognize, either, but since changing my cell phone provide, dismissing a call doesn't result in the call ending. The caller gets to leave a voice mail message, and sometimes I even get a text message of the contents if the voice mail message I didn't want and tried to stop. So instead of DISMISS meaning no more call, it means having to enter the passcode to my voicemail, listen to end electronic voice give me the menu options, select the message I didn't want, listen enough to make sure the message started, and delete it. I'm going to try answering and hanging up immediately, and see of that stops access to voicemail. I thought voicemail was supposed to be for calls I don't answer or dismiss. It was with the old provider, like having an unanswered call go to the home recording device, so we could play back our messages when we were available.

There are so many ways we have to keep in touch these days, and having caller ID means you know if it's someone you definitely want to speak to. It's so different to a few decades ago when the phone rang and you had no idea who it might be or if it was important, and there were no answer machines to use as back up.

I get caller ID and "Potential Scam/Spam" messages with each call. If I don't recognize the number, or I get the scam/spam message, I decline the call. For the caller to then have access to my voice mail and text messaging, after I decline the call, is just wrong. So much for not getting the spam/scam message. I just have to work harder to delete it than I did to just answer the phone and hang up. I do remember before answering machines. I actually remember party lines. So glad those are gone! It was impossible to have a private conversation. Anyone could pick up the phone in their house and listen to the conversation. Apparently, a lot of people did exactly that, then gave the people whose conversations they eavesdropped on dirty looks, knowing something private and personal about that person and using it against them. There have always been rotten people, judgmental people, people out to hurt others for the sake of hurting them, and a whole lot of other bad people just looking for ways to force their badness on others. Now we have social media, their platform for anonymously doing all the bad things everyone did before Rain, freezing rain and snow this morning. Temps above freezing by noon. Temps in the upper 30sF by early afternoon. Wind drying out the wet surfaces by midafternoon. I think we went through a whole week of weather conditions today We hoofed the hood before the rainy mess started, so no problems getting our outdoor things done Snow starting around 3 a.m. Friday morning. We're in the 2-4" accumulation area. Hubby will have to decide if we're going swimming. Winter weather is definitely unpredictable

Our mild weather has ended quite dramatically, it's really cold and we've even had a bit of snow. You're right about it being unpredictable. I got my favourite ever jigsaw for Christmas. The picture's by an artist, Matt Sewell, who I love. Liking the picture was a great start, but it was just a really enjoyable one to do (I rarely say that about jigsaws, it's usually more about frustration and then relief when it's done and over with!).

I love the jigsaw puzzle. Great colors, great composition. Too often specific things in the puzzle run into each other, making it hard to figure out where one aspect ends and the next one starts. Glad you enjoyed it We still don't have a great puzzle location, where we can leave the puzzle out and just work on it as the interest strikes us. We're talking about moving Pigloo City, so we can have shelving to display the dishes, etc. If we can do that, I want to get a new dining table that better suits our needs. The one we have is oval, which makes it hard to do a puzzle on one rounded end that doesn't have enough space to lay out the pieces and work on the puzzle. Our other option is a puzzle table, but they cost about $300, and we need a place to store it in between puzzles. I'd love to do that puzzle. I'll have to see if I can find it. We have very little snow left, and a lot of ice has replaced the snow. Snow tomorrow, so at least we'll have a clean coating on the existing snow. We have enough of a base of frozen snow to keep the snow through the rainy and warmer days, and a few more inches will add to that base. You're not used to bitter cold, but it doesn't last very long, does it? I've seen pictures of England under a thick layer of snow. Does it snow in some places, but not in other places? Not all of the pictures are old, so some place got a few inches of snow.

Oh yes, it varies massively. The north always gets more than the south, and within smaller regions, higher areas always get significantly more. The school my children go to is only about 3 miles away, but it's higher up, so often we have an inch of snow here and the school has got half a foot.
We have an extending dining table that has two extra segments that are stored under the table top. So I took one out and did the puzzle on there - it sat on the table most of the time and got moved temporarily when we used the table to eat. It might have bugged me if it was one that took weeks to do, but I'm never going to choose a jigsaw like that, I haven't the patience!

I've been looking for such a table. We have tables that have the extension under the table. To get to the extension, just pull the two ends apart and it pops up. That would be good for us, as we rarely need the table extended, so the extension stays under the table and out of the way. The two extension leaves for our current table are in Vic's office, taking up space. Not the best option, especially since we're trying to get rid of excess stuff we rarely use. We need those leaves for the once or twice a year we extend the table, and not the rest of the time. It would be nice if they were stored in the table. We could have a secure place to do the puzzles, since it's only the two of us.
Our snowfall is the same, much higher is some places than in others. Good thing we didn't go swimming this morning, as where the Y is located got at least 3" more snow than we did. Odd, as they were in a lower snow forecast area than we are.

Slightly peeved this evening- I was running out of hay, and PetSmart was out of Oxbow, so I ordered it from Amazon... the order was to arrive today, but I got an e-mail tonight stating that they canceled my order due to "technical difficulties".
I had a smaller backup bag of hay so the guys won't be out of food, but this is most inconvenient. I will have to see if PetSmart will have stuff in stock in the next few days.

That is annoying! Did Amazon give you any explanation of the 'technical difficulty'? That's one I haven't heard/seen before. Even during our snowstorm, the deliveries continued, though I'm sure many fewer packages were delivered than on good weather days. If getting Timothy hay is a problem, it might be worth ordering from several different sources (PetSmart/Petco/Chewy/Amazon/SmallPetSelect/etc.) so something gets delivered on a regular basis. I stopped ordering online because we seem to be in the most expensive shipping location. I hope you find some.

That is annoying! Did Amazon give you any explanation of the 'technical difficulty'? No, that's all the information they included in the e-mail. Makes no sense to me; I would understand if they said they were out of stock or the order would be delayed, but "technical difficulties" is so vague as to be utterly meaningless.

I remember once having an order with someone cancelled for some random reason like that, it didn't relate to availability or payment, and I was able to re-order it immediately with the same company (one I'd used before so I didn't worry it was dodgy). It didn't make any sense why their system didn't just do that automatically.

My weekend just gets better! (yes, that's sarcasm) My wife canceled a credit card and forgot that the card is attached to our phone plan, so we have no cell phone service. Next, our air filter on the refrigerator needed replacing, so I went out and got a new one but now I can't reset the button that tells me it needs replacing. The manual is useless, and so is the internet.
Finally, I bought more hay online but need to wait, so I went out and found more hay in-store. However, there seems to be a bedding shortage! I've got some for a week, and bought more, but the new pack is smaller. I hope I can get bedding in two weeks.
