Hope you got your phones back on again quickly.
It's so annoying, especially when you work hard as you do, to have so much time taken up sorting out these mundane sorts of problems in your free time. I hope you've used up your allocation or irksome household issues for the year!

I think we have to change our thinking on products we need, as we may not be able to get them I don't know what type of bedding you use, but it might be time for wash and reuse bedding. Fleece isn't expensive. In fact, it's inexpensive enough to be able to buy enough to make two pads per cage. Then you can just clean the cage, put in the fresh fleece, and have the cage back up and running while you wash the used fleece. Fleece will go over any regular bedding, but if you use something that sticks to the underside of the fleece, you need something like window screen to separate the two. Your cages aren't big, so it should be easy to remove the fleece with all the pellets and stuff, shake it out in a trash can, and wash it. Just a suggestion. If your wife doesn't want all the hair and hay in the washer, there are mesh bags that don't cost much, that will keep everything big from getting into the washer. I hope you find a solution. I think the supply chain issue is going to continue for quite for a while Oy! For someone with a basically financial mind, that wasn't very smart on your wife's part. We've had to replace lost credit cards, and since we get a new card number if there's any chance the card was stolen, we have to make a list of everything we pay with that card, and either contact each place, or wait for them to contact us about the card not working. We've never lost service because if it, though. We just get the message that the old number doesn't work, give them the new number, and we're done. I hope you get all that sorted really soon! Sorry you had a bad weekend because of it

Our phones came back online after about an hour, so we survived. There are other options for bedding, but I like the current style I'm using. I don't think the guys would care too much about what's underfoot, but I like to think they prefer the current brand. There's that brown paper chips I was using for Theo for awhile when it seemed the regular stuff was giving him the sneezes, but it seemed like I had to use a lot more to get his cage to be comfortable. On a side note, I stopped using scented bedding years ago after 3piggles suggested it.

It would probably only be temporary, so whatever unscented bedding is readily available should work. You might use more, but if it's just temporary, that's not too bad. Did you reorder from Amazon? It's chilly here. Feels Like was down to -11, but by the time I got the camerathe wind had slowed down. I filled the feeders and put a lot of seed put on the berm, last night, so I didn't have to go out this morning. It was 4F when I got up at 4:30, so thevtemp has dropped a bit with the sunrise.

I ordered from PetSmart directly, and I've a bag of hay coming later this week. But, I needed hay yesterday so I bought a bag at a store earlier this week. I should be set for a while now.

I remembered last Thursday that I'd meant to order some bales of bedding - too late, as the place we buy from deliver to my area that day. Anyway, we have plenty of hay, so have been using that up, filling the cages with it. It has to be changed regularly as it's not absorbent, but the pigs have had no complaints!

Pigs seem to love just playing in the hay, being buried in it, running through it, and eating their fill. It's good to have the extra so they can enjoy it

One of my flat-mates tested positive for Corona. We don't have that much contact to each other, and since i returned to the flat on Monday night we barely spoke. We have kind off opposite schedules, she needs to wake up for work at 4-5 am and is in bed by 9 pm, while i arrive after 9 pm and wake up at around 7 am. All of us are wearing face masks in all the common areas (kitchen, bathroom) with her stuff being sealed away in plastic bags and we disinfect with alcohol all handles after use. My other flat-mate has exams next week and I have experiments running, so neither of us can afford to catch it. Fingers crossed that we manage to stay healthy the rest of us.

(I didn't "like" this because your flat-mate tested positive, I "liked" it because you are taking precautions.) Stay safe over there- my daughter caught the virus and although her case was very mild, my wife and I were extremely concerned about catching it ourselves. Miraculously, (actually, not a miracle since we both are vaccinated and boosted) neither of us got infected. My wife mentioned that one of her friends was reluctant about getting the shot because her husband is a staunch trumplodyte. About a month ago she finally decided to get the shot for herself and her daughter. Just today we found out that this friend's co-worker is hospitalized with the virus since they didn't bother getting vaccinated. The light is starting to come on for a few of these dimbulbs. Probably too late for some, but then again, that's a few less people voting republican this year.

I am actually really glad that I boosted myself last week, immediately after I got the invitation. My mom, when she heard, wasn't that happy (she's not against the vaccine, she is concerned about the possible long term effects). With all the traveling to the lab and co tact with so many people in the building it's kind of mandatory that I get boosted.

Hope you manage to dodge it. I know loads of people where someone in the household has had it and the others haven't got it (where everyone's been vaccinated and taking sensible precautions).
We spent time with someone last week who went down with covid the next day. We weren't sitting especially close, but we've all been doing extra tests to reduce the chances of us inadvertently passing it on - so far, so good.

We don't even have the tests to do. I guess they're available in some places, but home tests aren't available anywhere that I know of. We can go to clinics and doctor's offices and get tested, but no home tests are available. Going to a clinic can means a 2 hour wait in a waiting room full of infected people, so we won't be doing that!
I LIKED that you were taking precautions and trying to stay clear of known sources. I hope you get your experiments done without that interruption!

Jeez, that's some bad management. I consider testing to be crucial to get a better sense of the real numbers...
Denmark doesn't have home tests either, but there are plenty of test centers everywhere. There are separate centers for PCR tests and different one for the quick tests. Even my university has on campus a quick-test center. There is never more than a few minutes of waiting time.
I tested myself the day after I got the news from my flatmate; I'll test again on Sunday and then Tuesday again

It's bizarre here. Not so long ago it was recommended that household members and close contacts of positive cases had PCR tests (the unvaccinated needed to self isolate and still do). Now if you're vaccinated, there seems to be nothing you need to do, even though it's well known you can still catch it and pass it on without any symptoms to alert you to it.
That extra testing is such an easy was to keep on top of numbers a bit more, and take pressure off the hospitals, but it's just being left up to individuals whether they want to do extra lateral flow tests or not. No wonder it's going round like the clappers.

I find it interesting, and probably part of the problem, that each of us is from a different country, yet none of our countries has had a good grasp of what's really needed to not only get people vaccinated, but keep them boosted, make sure they not only can get the home tests but use them, that they do isolate the correct way, etc. After 2 years, we're still floundering in our own ways.
Also, I don't know if it's easy to get the home test kits in California, but not here in New Hampshire. We are 50 totally separate states, and each one has its own approach to solving the same problems. I do know the first set of test kits that arrived here were gone in minutes, and I'm not sure exactly how they were apportioned, as most people said they couldn't get one. A new bunch arrived a few weeks ago, but again, I think they're all going to clinics and doctor's offices, and not home to people who can't get out to a clinic or doctor's office. New Hampshire has a high retiree percentage, so a lot of elderly people who can be exposed by a visit from friends or loved ones but can't easily get to a clinic or wait in line. Again, having to go to a clinic full of people waiting to be tested because they think they've been exposed isn't the best idea for anyone with an autoimmune disease, or even just an elderly immune system. We don't have special places with social distancing and short wait times. The tests seem to have just gone to clinics that handle all basic health problems.
Locally and globally, I don't think we're going to get all of the COVID issues under control, period. If anything, COVID will run its course while we're still scrambling to catch up.

It looks like we're dropping our Plan B restrictions as of Thursday (mask wearing, showing vaccination certificates/ negative test proof at larger events), and it seems people who test positive will no longer have to self-isolate. So you can relax, it's obviously all over now!

Deja Vu' all over again We haven't done that, but the infected numbers took a turn down, and this being a republican, no one can tell us what to do state, I figure first sign of anything going right, and they'll screw it up. The hospitals never get a break. Every time the numbers start down, the restrictions are dropped and the numbers go right back up At least I've gotten hubby to stop wearing the cool masks and start wearing the KN95 masks. Yes, they're a pain and fog up our glasses, if we don't have them on just right. He can always wear the cool mask over the KN95 mask.

Today was my daughter's 16th birthday! We had my mom and my younger brother's family over. My father was feeling a bit ill, so he stayed home- but I had my daughter call him and tell him he was missed. It went well, the cooking went fine (my wife was in charge, so I wasn't worried) and half of us had already recovered from the trumpvirus, so it was a success. Also, on Friday my daughter held a party for her friends at a restaurant (in a private room for safety) and 22 girls showed up. I was impressed, as I never had that many friends at one time in high school. Or in my adult life, co me to think of it.

Sounds like a very successful birthday celebration, really glad it all went so well!
Our hospital numbers are starting to fall, but there are major staffing issues relating to covid, which means capacity is much reduced. So it's definitely not time to relax yet if you work for the NHS.
