Sounds like an all-around great birthday, especially after her bout of Trumpvirus I never had that many friends, either. I'm really glad she has them We have hospital staffing issues because of the virus, too. We have National Guard members who are trained in different aspects such as triage and nursing helping out at some hospitals. That still doesn't give the hospitals enough beds to take in the viral patients and a lot of other who need treatment, and that's still a problem. Dr. Fauci said he thinks there's going to be a break in the virus around the end of February, at least in places with herd immunization. Over here, that means the sick from all the other places just come here and keep it going I'm not holding my breath, but it would be nice to get a breather, and get ahead of it for once. Lots of testing sites being advertised on the news, but again, nothing about getting test kits to use in the safety of our own homes. Not sure what that's about. The home tests aren't accepted for travel, jobs, etc. Those tests have to be done in a clinic. I guess the authorities think we'd lie to get our permissions, and a lot of people would.

I guess the authorities think we'd lie to get our permissions, and a lot of people would. Given how many idiots are willing to get a forged vaccination card instead of a free shot to keep them safe, I know many people would lie.

That really is sad, Baz I know, but if they're willing to sacrifice their health just to prove a point, they're welcome to whatever happens to them. I'm done trying to find empathy.

In Romania there was a huge scandal due to the fake vaccinations... The doctors would spill the vaccine in the sink instead of injecting it and then register it as given. Everything came to light when those romanians started to work abroad and started to get infected and develop severe cases. The authorities started to question themselves why only for the romanians the vaccine is not working and they end up in the hospital at a much higher rate than others. Over 1300 people are under investigation for fake vaccinations. It is so disappointing, but not surprising... Romanians always "handle" things

Whoah, that's outrageous! The levels of corruption involved in doing that are quite astonishing.
Will the justice system see people properly held to account, or are there dodgy folk on the inside there too?

Wow! That's not handling anything. That's assault and possibly murder! I hope those responsible are held accountable. That's unconscionable. The vaccine would have kept people healthy. Why would anyone in the medical profession not want people to be healthy?
I just learned that the late singer/actor Meatloaf was a major supporter of HIM and his moronic ideas, and he died of a severe case of the Trumpvirus. Why can't or won't people learn?
Amber, your family members in Romania got the real vaccine, right?

The docs were being bribed by the people to spill the vaccine and give them the fake certificates. The west imposed mandatory vaccines for some categories of people (e.g. the ones hired in elderly care, an area dominated by eastern european migrants) and the romanians don't trust the vaccines. The result is fake vaccination certificates at the request of the people. 500 people are on trial already for this masquerade. What the results will be, it's hard to tell. I find the punishments too mild. From what i know, only one doctor was giving the people saline solution instead of the vaccine, without the knowledge of the patients, because the doc didn't trust the anti-covid vaccine.
My father refuses to vaccinate, even though he would not survive the disease. He doesn't trust it and he is spamming me with all kind of alternative treatments and conspiracy theories. I don't even bother reading or replying. Last summer, when i visited them and i found out that he wasn't vaccinated, i have told him that i regret my visit and if i would have known, i would have cancelled my visit. He was surprised. Mom got the real vaccine, 2 doses, but she doesn't want the booster. She had severe reactions to the 2nd dose and even now she hasn't fully recovered and can barely walk to the market (500m from home). My brother and his girlfriend are also vaccinated, don't know if also boosted.

I am so sorry I hope your dad doesn't get the virus. An American singer/actor named Meatloaf recently died of severe COVID complications. He was not vaccinated, and he supported all the anti-vaxxer alternatives. Why do people think drinking Ivermectin, peroxide or bleach is safe, but getting a government-approved vaccine isn't? Do the majority of Romanians only have the most basic education? I ask because here in the states the groups with the lowest vaccination record are those with the lowest levels of education-Native Americans on reservations, and rural southern blacks and whites. These people have a high school education at best, and many are dropouts with less than a high school education. They don't think they know more than the government. They don't trust the government. The government has not only never done anything to help them but has done much to harm and try to eliminate them. They are like refugees from places where the police are all corrupt, who come to the US and don't trust the police here.

Doctors taking it upon themselves not to vaccinate people who want to be vaccinated too? Crikey! I hope all these people are fully held to account for their actions, not that it sounds very likely from what you're saying.

I can't imagine any docdoing that, purposely hurting and possibly killing people, yet Nazi doctors did unspeakable things to prisoners, as did doing other revolutions. Still, doctors in regular practice? 😪 We got snow ❄️🌬 The wind cleared a swath around my car. NH faired okay, but Massachusetts got bombed. The leaf blower worked great clearing off the front steps, but the slider was frozen shut, and trying to blow off the snow standing on the ground beside the deck didn't work. It did a great job clearing snow off the cars. Lite, fluffy snow only.

Glad the snow blower's cleared your cars. It doesn't look like there's an answer to that slider door freezing shut though!

The government has not only never done anything to help them but has done much to harm and try to eliminate them. They are like refugees from places where the police are all corrupt, who come to the US and don't trust the police here. Hmm...i think that for the Romanians is a mixture of lack of education, a generalized mistrust in the authorities, a paranoia that the West doesn't want us to reach our full potential and the failure of the health authorities to explain in simple words and using analogies what the vaccine does, how it works. Romania has one of the biggest rates in the EU of school abandonment (before the kinds even finish the mandatory 10 grades), analphabetism and functional analphabetism. That alone makes a perfect breeding ground for alternative theories and refusing everything what is new. Add on top of that the damage that the communism and the ever-present corruption did and still do, with people not trusting anyone and definitely not the authorities. Those authorities would do anything to hide side effects so that they can only get richer. Another layer comes with people believing that the West would use various techniques to keep us inside of our box (throughout history we weren't allowed to self-govern or even be united as a single country - this happened only since 1918). And finally comes the communication error. Using big and complicated words like RNA, DNA, antibodies doesn't help. The authorities only did a roulette with prizes for whoever vaccinated and had some TV appearances. They did forget though, that half of the countryside houses still don't have running water and there are still over 52000 houses without electricity. Considering this level of development, a completely different information campaign should be done...the old and tiredsome way with doctors/nurses walking house to house to inform, explain and vaccinate. I was reading a few weeks ago that Romania was veeery proud of reaching 50% of the population vaccinated with one dose. After that much time, this is what they have managed... In comparison, Denmark is lifting from tomorrow all restrictions (no more covid-passports, no more face masks, no more mandatory testing). Why can they do it? Because even though the infection cases are sky-rocketing, they are not coupled anymore with hospitalisations, and those are kept rather low. Denmark vaccinated over 80% of the population with 2 doses and 50% of the population even got the booster.

Oh, snow!!! I am still waiting for some over here in Denmark. I would love a good 10-15cm of snow for a few days. Even though i know exactly that the commute to the university would be an absolute horror

We got somewhere between 6 and 12". I'll average that out at 9" The leaf blower and snow blower together did all the work, and while hubby has to use those tools, and that's tiring, it certainly beats shoveling. He used the snow blower to clear a circular path in the back yard feeder area. I told him it made me think of a racecourse for clown cars The critters are loving it, because the seed is accessible without having to dig through the snow for it. One little red squirrel was popping in and out of a depression in the snow. It gave him great cover A hawk comes through here periodically. Thinks it's a smorgasbord for him/her, so I put as much seed as I can under the trees, and in the protected areas, so everyone doesn't have to gather out in the open. Romania really does have more working against it than for it I agree the door-to-door approach would have worked much better, especially in the rural areas. I remember a House Hunter International episode in Romania. The American man bought a very rural farm that only had running water/bathroom facilities in the barn, where they washed the livestock, and washed themselves after dealing with the livestock. To get water for food or drink, he had to go to the barn. Being American, he had a full, modern bathroom built in the house, and updated everything else to it met his needs, but he probably had the only farm like that in rural Romania. Americans don't go back to basics very well. They prefer to upgrade things so they're not basic anymore. He probably put in a bidet, lol We have the exact same problems with ignorant, rural blacks and white, and with people on the reservations. All have been badly harmed by the government in the past, and don't trust anyone but each other. That means someone from the rural black sharecropper communities has to go door to door with the doctors, explain exactly what the vaccine is and does, and have them get vaccinated. Same with the rural white sharecropper communities and the reservations. Finding a native American from the reservation wasn't that hard. Some are doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc., and grew up on the reservation. Still, convincing those who never left the reservation that having left doesn't mean they're no longer trustworthy is a problem. The roots of mistrust go back hundreds of years, and they aren't changing any time soon Around here, though, it's sheer ignorance and pigheadedness. The antivaxxers are as bad as the flat earthers, thinking they're so much more intelligent than the rest of us, and they KNOW what's right and wrong, unlike those of us getting the vaccinations. Nothing is going to change their minds, and every attempt to punish them for not getting vaccinated (can't work, attend school, use transportation in public), have been challenged and often overturned. They have the right to make us all sick, and to even kill some of us, but we have no right to make them stay away from us? I have no problem with people not being vaccinated, as long as they aren't in public when I am and haven't been there. Shop online, not in the store. I know Bean totally disagrees with me, but I feel I have as much right to not be infected as they have to infect everyone, and I think infecting others because you won't get vaccinated should be assault. It would be if a prostitute knowingly infected her or his clients, but not if an anti-vaxxer infects everyone in a supermarket, and someone dies from the virus.
