The cages are lovely Lesa. As well as the great advice given, I do have a friend on-line who I met when our bunny Fiver was poorly. If you like I can ask her if I can pass on her email for you. She is very knowlegeable about rabbits and their health. Here are her bunnies www.myspace.com/roslynlamb Just thought I'd tell you a little about our two bunnies. Our bunny Thumper is a large English mix, he's extremly friendly but also has his funny moods like throwing his bowl around if he's feeling stroppy Fiver who was also an English mix was very good at being handled but I think the main reason was because he was sometimes poorly with his teeth problem so he became used to it. Many rabbits don't like to be picked up but some will get used to being held although many don't enjoy being lifted. Thumper as soft as he is, refuses to be lifted and because of the worry of him getting too stressed we just don't lift him unless he has to go to the vets. I'm not very good at knowing different breeds but I think in many ways its good to get a breed that you will know their eventual size. We didn't think Thumper would grow as big as he did, with him being a mix breed, you can't predict how big they will grow. Here are my favourite links that I visit. www.rabbit.org/index.htmlhomepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabrefs.html (health) www.muridae.com/rabbits/rabbittalk.html (what bunny is saying) Some pictures of Thumper Baby Thumper Fiver was about a third smaller. One of my favourite pictures of him .

Jackie read through some of the links - really useful - thank you. I just noticed that you edited the post to include bun pics as well. They are gorgeous. I've seen some lops in local pet shops with markings like Thumper (some same colour as Thumper and some black and I love them).
I have tried ringing my nearest shelter but they don't have any rabbits at the minute. Also emailed one further afield and posted home offered messages on a couple of forums over here so hopefully between all of that I'll find a pair to adopt.
Hubby has given the thumbs up to rabbits and the big hutch (dependent on him getting a formal offer on a job he has been in meetings about) so keep your fingers crossed that he gets the job and that I can find a pair of rabbits to adopt.

Very good news, Lesa! I wouldn't be in a rush to find a pair of rabbits. It is the same with piggies: there are always worthy cases in need of a good home. The rabbits will find you soon enough...what does it matter if you wait a couple of weeks?

I was told to try a sanctuary and have been calling them but always busy. I got through this afternoon but turns out they don't home rabbits. Anyway they gave me another sanctuary's tel number and they have a few pairs of rabbits ready for rehoming. Don't know anything about them yet but will go up tomorrow or next week for a look.

Its official - I'm in love!
I have just been to see the most beautiful pair of lops. A girl named Thumper who is a dwarf lop and a boy named Brin who is a french lop. They are so beautiful and are going to be mine as soon as I can get their new home delivered and set up. They are rescues and am thrilled to be giving them a new home. Just can't wait to get them home now. I could hardly bear to leave without them but they have my name on them now (not literally Val!).

no photos yet but plenty when I get them home. From descriptions I found on the net I think Thumper is an agouti but not sure about Brin. He is a sort of very pale honey or caramel, he is huge and he has the softest fur - its like velvet. Hurry up hutch

Also one other thing rabbits have a weakness to diseases (meaning rabbits can get sick easily) so you hav to make sure your rabbit is well protected from different insects and stuff
