Finally, my new piggies arrived today! And here they are, if I've got the hang of the whole photo thingy... They came with really daft names - Chocolate Face for the brown one and Fanta Dash for the black one with the orange spot on her back. Any suggestions for new ones?! They're obviously still quite shy with me so haven't really had a chance to really reveal their characters yet.

Aw they are adorable! Double cuties! I love their coloring. Are they both sows? As far as naming them, just take it slow and see how their personality evolve. I'm sure once you see that a good name will just pop into your head. I love the spot of orange on Fanta Dash. Fanta is a soda soft drink that comes in orange and grape. I'd bet that is why they named her Fanta Dash because she looks like a dash of orange soda splashed on her back. lol

Yep, they're both girls and you're right, they're certainly a healthy size! Might need to rethink some of the hideys I've got for them... They're about a year and a half old, we think. Got them from Thistle Cavies, who are fab. I know, they'll choose their own names in time. Just feel a bit daft calling them nothing but 'piggies' and 'girls' in the meantime! Really looking forward to having them around. Even Silvie the cat doesn't seem too horrified by them!

I'm not suggesting this as a name but Fanta Dash's colors remind me of a Woolly Bear caterpillar. They are thick, fuzzy caterpillars that are black/brown/black. Fanta isn't my favorite soda, so I'm all for changing her name, lol. Cute piggies!!!

Cute pigs! I have to admit the names fanta dash and chocolate face are a bit... um weird. chocolate face? ok.... and its her whole body not just her face. See the piggy at the top on the wheekers logo to the right of the word "wheekers"? That one could be named chocolate face.

They are lovely and cute but then I am totally biased! They both have one oddity in common too - the chocolate one has one white foot and the black one has one orange foot to go with the orange spot on her back! 3Piggles - I like the woolly ctaerpillar comparison! Marigold - I thought that too. But I think the Wheekers pig is more like a Fudge Face or a Capuccino Face!

Hmmmm, Capuccino - maybe name that one Cappy? The black one looks like she's wearing a necklace - Lacey?
They are both sooooo shiny!

I have finally decided - Woolly for the black/ginger one, like the woolly caterpillar and Bingo for the chocolate brown one. A friend suggested it and even he doesn't know why, but I think it fits nicely! I heard them squeaking for the first time today which was really nice. They are still very shy but beginning to come around slowly. Woolly was even quite relaxed on my lap last night but Bingo still struggles a little. And I've got them a big pigloo which they can both fit in!

They are gorgeous and I love their colouring. One of my boys has the black and orange colouring as well but with a dash of white (he is called Chocolate and his cream and white sister is Caramel).

And they managed to have their first visit to the vet today, less than a week after arriving here! Nothing serious, just very itchy and they have lice. the vet showed me them under the microscope - ugh! All psychological, I know, but I've been feeling kinda itchy myself ever since... I have a few more pigtures too - I will get around to downloading them from the camera at some point over the weekend for you all.

Ugh, Ziggy had lice too. Yucky pet stores. Anyway, I itched like crazy, but I knew it was all in my head. Be sure and give the cage and all the items a good scrub down. Glad the visit went nicely. Have you told Thistle Cavies that they had lice? They probably need to do a round of treatment on the pigs they may have there if there was any chance of them transferring.

Thistle Cavies is actually a lovely rescue place. I don't like yucky pet stores either, although I was sorely tempted by the little ones in Pets at Home... bur knew Thistle Cavies would be a much better bet. And yes I have let them know - as much for the fact that they like to know how the piggies are getting on. Don't know how easily lice are transferred, but all the groups/pairs of piggies there are kept in distinctly separate pens and cages. The vet says it could have been brought on by the stress of moving. I know it's uncomfortable for the piggies but at least it's an easy problem for me to deal with! I will get down to the scrubbing tomorrow.

Lice is not brought on by stress, mites are. Lice has to be transferred directly either from one pig who has it or on clothing, houses, bedding.
I have actually heard of people on here talking of Thistle Cavies, and heard only wonderful things. Things do happen though, so it's no fault of theirs if one with lice slipped by. It is good that you told them though.

Oh yes, Thistle Cavies is fantastic - it is where I got my Hirwen from! They also nursed Horatio for me after his operation when my mum was in hospital.
I wonder if your girls met my Hirwen, as she was there quite a while before I got her?

Thanks 5boars - must read up on lice and mites and things. I knew that both are quite common piggy problems and to look out for scratching but I'd like to find out more detail. Off to Guinealynx later on for me! The lady at Thistle Cavies is lovely and does a great job. She does have a LOT of piggies on her hands and they are obviously coming and going quite often so I quite understand that these things are going to happen. cpl - I read your thread about Horatio and Hirwen and that convinced me even more that a 2hr journey to Thistle Cavies to rescue some piggies was absolutely the right decision! I think my two arrived there in July and they came home with me last weekend, so not sure if they might have met your Hirwen.

I've bought meds from Thistles before as well and they were so helpful when they were things I needed urgently.
