I know what you mean about waiting. It is good that the food is passing and being digested. Could she use a probiotic to help with the gut flora? Sometimes it just gets out of whack. I hope she makes a steady improvement!

The Fibreplex and the Avipro both have probiotic in them. Just wish I could help her recover more quickly!

Gah, sorry to hear about the soggy poops, you were due a much longer vet-break in my opinion. Fingers crossed the results show something easily treatable, and glad she's still eating normally - a good sign indeed.

Definitely sending healing vibes her way. Bean's right. You all deserved a longer vet break. I hope it gets sorted soon

Thanks all. We were at the vets again today, this time saw our usual favourite exotics vet, no change in poos yet. And an unusual blip from the vets surgery who are usually fantastic - they didn't send the sample away for testing until this morning because they'd forgotten to ask my consent for the costs. Never mind, Winnie is doing OK and the vet said I'm doing everything right in the meantime while we wait for results. She said they do loads of tests, including for bacteria, yeast and parasites. Wininie very kindly produced a good pile of poos for her to check out - and she peed on me this time! Unwelcome news is that Winnie has acquired some ringworm to go with everything else

Oh no, not the news you wanted - I'm assuming it's not so bad if it's just been picked up which is good news for Winnie, but that won't mean any less cleaning and treating for you eh? Glad Winnie is doing okay and keeping up her excellent weeing record!

Poor Winnie and poor you I've been there with the health problems that just never seem to end. I've been lucky with these three, but I know that could change at any time. I hope you get the ringworm under control quickly. Nasty!

Poor Winnie certainly does deserve a break, it's been one thing after another for her for the past year, since we lost Woolly and Bingo. Vet could probably do with a break from us too!
Progress though, the swollen lymph node which pointed us to the ringworm and is where one of the patches is has gone down quite a bit.
I hope you're right Bean - just a couple of patches of thin hair and a slightly flaky ear, no scabby bits, so hopefully we have caught it early and it will respond quickly to the cream.

It does sound promising for catching it early. I really hope you all get a real break, soon!

Spoke to the vet this afternoon, she has the test results - no parasites, no nasty bacteria just plenty of good ones (so at least the probiotics are doing their stuff!), just a borderline yeast thing so we're going to treat for that and hope it helps. Off to collect the drugs once I've fed everyone.
I found out yesterday that I have to be away for a week for a work training thing in a couple of weeks. Usual boarding place understandably won't have them because of the ringworm so they're having to stay at the vets again, at vast expense... At least the vet can see how Winnie's getting on while she's there.

Good about the test results, but ugh to the cost of keeping them at the vets. It is good that they will be under vet watch, but I've done that, and it is costly! I hope the meds work quickly, and the poor girl gets her poos under control!

Piggies is our poo expert, she even had a wee letter printed in the Guinea pig magazine! She's quiet about her knowledge but she really is our poo expert weesilvie xx

Thanks all, I'm looking forward to more progress. I don't mind them having to stay at the vets, just wish it didn't cost so much! But to be honest, my favourite boarding place doesn't cost much less. You get what you pay for - excellent care and peace of mind.
I forgot to ask the vet so has anyone here got any thoughts on if, when and how I could reintroduce veg for Winnie?

I would wait until the poos have been good for at least a week. She doesn't need the veggies, so give her system a chance to really heal and be happy.

Thanks 3piggles
Touch wood, but I think Winnie is starting to turn a corner with the whole poo thing - they're starting to look a lot more like normal. I'm down to twice a day with the Fibreplex and Avipro, and the evil yellow anti yeast drugs seem to be doing the trick.
Just need to get rid of this bloomin ringworm now...
