I think a world car would be great. I watch the auto shows and see all the cool concept cars, and cars they're making for other countries, and wish they'd make those for us.

I used to be really into cars too Laurie and always watched programmes like Top Gear here and the broadcasts from the MotorShow. The animals seem to have taken over all by spare time these days.
The Ford's have changed over here a lot recently. We were thinking of changing our car recently (have young children so drive a people carrier) and were looking at Fords this time. We checked out the Galaxy and were quite impressed with it. We didn't change in the end but will certainly consider it for when we do change the car. I've been driving VW's for quite a few years now and absolutely love them.

Sorry I've been away for soooo long. Crazy times it's been these last three or four weeks. My wife got sick somethime the middle of last month and the quick care doctor put her on some antibiotics. Her health seemed to decline even more and we finally got an appointment with the primary care provider on the 30th. At the appointment, her doctor said that the antibiotics were probably causing her to get sick and vomit. Some blood labs were requested to rule anything else out. On the next morning, the 1st, we received a call and got told that my wife was a full-blown type-2 diabetic and to get her to the urgent care right away. We got into the urgent care and they did all they could for her, but the condition had worsened to the point that she needed to be taken to the hospital. After the ambulence ride and waiting in an ER room for a few hours, they took us upstairs and tested her blood-sugar level. She was 388. A healthy person is 80-120. After a few hours, her level had risen to 512 and they moved her to the IMC and had her hooked up to 3 IVs. We stayed until 9pm on the 3rd when she finally got discharged. Now it's been a learning game with her insulin and keeping her blood-sugar levels at an acceptable level. Also having to change her diet has been hard as well. The guinea pigs have been going crazy because the are not used to sharing their vegetables with us. We have so many that between my wife and the 6 of them, I can't make them all fit in the drawers in the bottom of the fridge. ;D Now that she knows what's going on with her body, she feels better than she has in years. She feels a little weak, but the endocronologist says that that is normal seeing that she was functioning with so much sugar in her blood before that her body feels that it's lacking now. We managed to get her levels to 99 the other day and haven't been over 250 for seveal days now. We're working through it and our guineas have been there to give us a laugh when we get down. Thanks for reading and caring.

Wow, I'm so sorry you had to go through all that, but really glad you caught it before it was too late. I've had a few friends find out they were diabetic. It is a major life change. No doubt about that. You'll be reading the contents of every prepared thing you buy for a long time.
Hub had high blood pressure and cholestol, so I got into reading the ingredients in everything. It becomes second nature after a while. We also had to change our diets, and now we don't even want a lot of those foods anymore. Give it time. Once you're used to the idea, the routines and the diet, you'll do just fine.
I'm really glad you have the piggies to help you through this time. We were always a veggie eating family, but once I got piggy shopping lists and tried other things, even our salads got more interesting. Now I buy veggies with the pigs' alotment and our in mind, lol.
It's good to see you back on Wheekers. We'll help the pigs keep your spirits up.

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife's health issues. My best friend's little girl Victoria, was just diagnosed as diabetic too. She is only 10 years old and has suffered so much with childhood cancer too. I am now on a mission to read everything I can about diabetes and it is nothing to take lightly. The long term effects of the disease is horrific if not kept under control. I had to give Victoria her insulin injection for the first time last week and test her blood with those strips....her blood tested at 368 that day....not good as you already know. Learning all about what foods to eat and what not to eat is really life changing! I don't know how you tell a little girl that she can no longer go have ice cream cone like everyone else does. I guess we all should be more aware of the things we eat and help each other. I know I will be more careful especially when Victoria is over here. I'm glad that your wife now knows what she is dealing with and hopefully will continue to feel better each day. I will keep your wife and Victoria in my prayers.

Thank you everyone. The doctor said she's probably been diabetic for a few years now, but we just didn't know that her being sick all the time was about.

My MIL was diagnosed as Type 1 diabetic recently, she'd been ill for about 2 months but wouldn't go to the doctors, then she rushed into hospital almost in a coma. It takes some getting used to but you'll get there. I bet she's glad your home at the moment, even if it makes money situations a stress.

I'm sorry to hear your wife has been unwell. Must be such a hard thing to adjust to. My friend's husband was diagnosed type 2 last year and he was almost in denial about it for a while. Glad to hear her counts are settling.

Wow. Sorry to hear of your wifes' health issues. I hope things are beginning to get better for her. It's good that it was caught before things got worse than they did. Good luck.

My wife has been doing extraordinarily well. She's been down below 150 for the past few weeks and has been below 100 quite frequently. So she's doing much better. As for the guineas, I got this video of the girls eating a carrot.

ROFL, Mine, all mine, bwahahaha!!! LIfe would be so boring without piggies.
How are you two doing finding new recipes you like and foods she can eat? That's usually one of the biggest hurdles, as you have to stop eating a lot of things you've always eaten and love, and find new things. I hope she's feeling a lot better now that she's getting the treatments and changing her diet. After years of feeling lousy all the time, just having more good days than bad must be a nice change.
