My wife, Allison, and I (Joel) are happily married and live within walking distance of the Las Vegas Strip.
My wife had had guinea pigs throughout her childhood. She had professed her desire to have another before we got married. A few weeks after our wedding I gave in and we, not knowing any better at the time, went into a pet store because they were having a sale. Buy the Super Pet Guinea Pig Starter Kit and get a cavy for $8.88.
After looking at the dozen or so 6 week olds they had available, I liked one and my wife liked another. The manager said that he would give them both to us for $8.88 each, if we bought the starter kit. He had failed to realize that the starter kit had went on sale that day. We got 2 guineas and a cage with all the necessities for around $60, at a pet store none-the-less.
Before we left the store, I asked if they were male or female. I got told that they didn't know, but that if either of them was pregnant or became pregnant that the store would buy the babies off of us. I told him I would think about it, but knew I could never sell any to them. When I got home, I did some good old research on the web to sex our new cavies. Luckily they were both boars.
Here are some pictures from the first night we had them home. They were so tiny.

Luna and my wife
And the cage. Luna was so dehydrated his eye had sunk into his head. All the cavies at the petstore had to share one tiny bottle.
We read up on some websites and made a C&C cage.
Then we got bit by the cavy ownership bug. We wanted another. This time we went to the Nevada SPCA and looked at their group of piggies. We fell in love with one and got him for $10. He bonded well with minimal fighting. Here are some pics of him.

The three of them together
Then my wife told me she wanted more. She said that she wanted some girls so that she wasn't outnumbered. I gave in and we found 3 sows, a mother and her 2 daughters, on craigslist. $20 later we now have 6 cavies.
Estrella, Melody (Mommy), and Lyric
Another of the girls
We turned the spare room into a semi-free range guinea home. One by one the boys began fighting and we had to sparate them, but everyone's doing well.

Thanks for reading.
