I'm so sorry to hear that. Losing a pet is devastating.

My biggest concern would be the age of the new guy. They are very close in age and it could be trouble when they go through guinea pig puberty at the same time. Let's hope for the best though.....I hope you make the right decision for all of you :-)

I don't think you're supposed to give them very much cabbage, but I'm not sure. I hope somebody else can clarify it.

What's wrong with her? Maybe you should take her to the vet. I guess I just have a hard time understanding getting a pet and then returning it. To me that's not an option, but you have to do what you have to do. Good luck :-)

Carlos sure is a handsome fella :-) Best advice to a new guinea pig mom is to get two piggies. They really love the company of a piggy friend.

I didn't know we were supposed to clean their ears. I guess I will have to do some research on how to do it myself.

I don't do laundry every day, but maybe every 4 days. I have lots of fleece, so I just change it, keep it in a laundry basket and then wash it after a few days. I have a hay rack and then I made this little box that covers a small area under the hay rack. That way, whatever hay they pull out, just ends up in the box. They can still play in it or whatever they want, but it doesn't get everywhere in their cage and I waste a lot less hay than before I had the rack. I will take a picture of it at some point, because its hard to explain.

I have two guinea pigs and I use fleece in their cage. It's hard to say if it smells, because I'm around it everyday, so I don't really notice a smell, but I hope it's not too bad. I put towels under the fleece and I clean the whole thing about every 4 days, where I take everything out and wash it and wipe down the cage (sometimes I just use water and sometimes water with vinegar). I change the fleece every day, which might be a lot, but it works for me right now. I just take it outside and shake off all the poop and bits of hay. Then I wash it with an unscented laundry detergent and vinegar instead of fabric softener. I do have a fair bit of laundry, but when I used Carefresh bedding, I had that stuff all over the floor, so fleece works a lot better for me. I think it's cheaper too in the long run. I can't wait to see the little Clark :-)

I'm so sorry to hear about Mooshi passing away. I'm sure you did the best you could and gave him a good life while you had him. It just breaks my heart to hear about people having to say good bye to their pets. It's a really really tough decision.

My guinea pig Melvin was a real biter too, probably until he was 10 months old or so. It's an interesting theory about the runt thing, because he was the runt too. Anyway, he bit me hard a few times and drew blood and it was very frustrating. I didn't do a whole lot to correct it, but was careful when holding him. Now he will snap sometimes, but I think his eyesight is so bad, that I surprise him and then he uses his teeth. He has a bad habit though of chewing on my clothes when I hold him. I have a couple of "guinea shirts" as I call them now, with holes by the shoulder. It's annoying, because I like snuggling with him, but he is now 1.5 years old, so I'm thinking that's just the way he is. I hope your problem is just because he is going through his "teenage" stage and he will grow out of it.

I use a towel too, because they seem to pee wherever they want, whenever they want. It's funny to see how Jackson lies in the little house, because my piggies lie exactly the same way, with the one leg hanging out. So cute.
