Thanks everybody. ;D Reuben's surgery went well in itself; However, it hasn't really changed his temperament much. He no longer sprays, and he is getting better with Willoughby,; but still tends to nip us a lot. He has improved though. Elsa is totally my mum's; but she knows we are her humble slaves too. Miss Personality-plus! she likes chasing Pepa and Rocky, as they run away, but she adores Chucky, and follows him around imitating him. I think he quite likes her, too. Chucky has been a bully for years, and rules with an iron paw, so its unusual seeing him so gentle. Cyrus is doing well, but his brother Caspian is starting to show his age a little, but still got plenty of life in him. However, I do have bad news. Drinian, well, the vet isn't sure what's happened, but something neurological is going on, causing him to lose partially use of his legs. :'(The poor fella has to drag himself around, its so hard for him and me(to watch). I've re-done his cage for him, and he tries so hard to climb around, but he just cant. Drin is my 'problem' boy; he's always been special to me, because he needed me so much. We got him from the SPCA, who had taken him from a woman who's 6 rats kept fighting; Drin was the reason why. He had no idea how to behave with rats, but they never told us that until later. We found out when we tried intros with our gentlest rats, Jasper and Cyrus. Jasper=big head wound, leaving him with slight nerve damage, and a complex about meeting new rats; Cyrus= big wound in his side, and the realization he could fight. Never been the same with other rats since, he's now a bully and only really gets on with Caspian now. In fact, mum swears he changed all the rats temperaments. He did change a few anyway. Since the SPCA neuters all their rats before re homing, we could only hope that would calm him down, as he had only just been done. Drin then got very depressed, and refused to eat; then I found he'd eat potato if I was eating it, but not when he was in his cage. So I had him with me all day; he practically lived in my jacket, and I ate a LOT of potato. Eventually, he found other foods were good too, and then he found he could eat in his cage too! In short, he soon picked up and found interest in life; every morning he'd hear me get up, and run to his cage door, waiting for me, and I'd get him, and then go get breakfast. He'd spend the whole day with me, coming out for runs sometimes, or having a snooze, etc. Then he found that he could share my jacket with another rat without that rat doing anything to him; then he found he could play with other rats, and in short, three months after we got him, Drinian climbed into Bryn's cage with him and snuggled up boggling with Bryn, Rillian, and Bree. I couldn't believe it, Bryn is an agro little rat, and won't tolerate other rats in his cage, but he chose to be best friends with Drin; everywhere Bryn went Drin would follow. And Drin loved the ratty company, he couldn't get enough of it. He wouldn't go out with me in the mornings, he wanted to stay with the others. And now Bryn follows Drin around, and curls up with him if Drin can't climb into the hammock, or if Drin falls he follows and curls up with him until I find him. Drin and I have a special bond that I hope I never have again with any other animal as it came through his depression and the fact that with me he found interest in life; I think if I hadn't adopted him, he would have died at the spca, as no matter what they do, they wouldn't have been able to give him the TLC I could. It's just so upsetting knowing this is something I can't do anything about; it could very well be a tumor on his brain, in which case there's nothing we can do. I'm sorry for such a ramble. Anyway, I think you get the gist of it!

I'm so sorry about Drin. I know what it's like to have that special bond, and to have to deal with losing it. For all your sakes, I hope something can be done to help Drin. Digits crossed for you.
Elsa is THE cutest, and she knows it, lol. Great pics, and I love the story of how she came to be with you.

I'm sorry about Drin. I know what it's like to have a ''problem pet''. My Leopard gecko seems to stop eating a certain time of year and sometimes has to be force fed or have baby food rubbed on her mouth to lick up. Plus I have trouble getting her to gain weight. I hope Drin's condition is not a permanent thing and he gets better for you.

Aww.. I hope Drin can recover from this - he knows you love him and that life can be happy. There really is something special about a 'special needs' pet that makes our bond with them even stronger.

Thanks guys; but he was pts today. We tried steriods, but they only gave him minimal improvement leg-wise, and he never stopped losing weight; 60 grams in the last week, even tho he was still eating. There was anything the vets said they could do, really, since the only treatment that would work didn't, not really. Chances are, it was a tumor, but it would cost $1500-2000 just to diagnose it, but even then, they wouldn't be able to do anything about it. I'm kinda numb. They wrapped him up nicely, in a purple cloth, and placed him in a white box, with a rose on the lid. I think they had fallen in love with him, too. They did say he had changed their opinions about rats. I may post more pics of him later. He had such a bum life, I'm gutted it ended this way. At least the last nine months were happy....

I'm sorry. I've never had one, but I've heard the worst part about pet rats is their lifespan.

Thanks Gogo. It's the only bad thing I know about rats, their lifespan. :/ Few more pics of Elsie I just have to share. It's so cute, she follows Chucky around, and when he stops to clean, she stops, stares, and them copies him. Then when he settles down, she hops up and settles down a short distance away, til she gets bored and runs off to do mad kitty stuff, like attacking her reflection in the mirror(sorry, no pics or videos of that yet!). So she settles down at a respectful distance, as Chucky was getting sick of her, and wanted some personal space. Then she wriggled a little closer. zen just a liddle closer..... She actually had her paw across his back, but I can't find the pic. All that happened in about 5 minutes, she knew we were watching too. Chucky never even budged, they stayed like that for about ten minutes til she decided she'd slept long enough, and took off again at about 180 k/h. I've also got a few pics of a few of the rattie boys. I'm planning a big photoshoot, of the rats, rabbits, and the piggies, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Rillian, looking gorgeous. This is a bit of a bad pic, but its cute, so I'm adding it! I think this is Shasta. And I think this is his twin Corin, looking stunning, while munching pasta. Some one was silly enough to put a folded sheet on their cage; you see the result!
