Hello! Vanillapop here, supplying more cute pigtures of Cocoa Bean.
Also I didn't quite introduce myself. I am a workin' new ma in North Eastern US (the best part of the country IMO!) with my precious baby girl, doting hubby, my pig Cocoa and Stella the cat (I'll try to post a pic of that fluffy beast eventually!) I like hanging out with my family, my job (I work at a pet supply store!), drawing, cooking indian food, hikin' and yoga. Nice to meet all of you!
Original Post: Hello! I am new on this forum and introducing my sweet lil' guinea pig Cocoa Bean. She is a pig I adopted, and she has a lil head tilt from presumably a stroke she suffered when she was young. The vet ruled out everything else, but it doesn't seem to bother her! She is very sweet and cuddly and loves green peppers and her fleecey hammock. I am currently searching for an appropriate cage mate for her, but all the pigs in my shelter have been boys for a while.
I hope to learn more about pigs and make friends while I'm here! It's nice to have found such a welcoming and laid back forum! ;D

Hello and welcome. Cocoa Bean is gorgeous!!! Glad you got her and she's happy. The head tilt probably won't give her any trouble if she's had it since she was born. Just keep an eye on it for her.
To post more than one picture just do ENTER after you post one, select the next link from your photo site and paste it into the text, and repeat, until you post as many as you want!!!

Hello! Your Cocoa Bean is totally adorable. She reminds me of my Jasmine! How old is she? Have you had her long? She looks very small and cute!

So nice to meet you guys! And yes, 3piggles, If any new symptoms popped up I'd be sure to bring to to my vet, who luckily deals in small furries And thanks jasminesmum! I have had her for a couple months now, but she's still pretty young, estimated at 4-5 months! I can't wait for her to get big and strong, she's already grown a bit in the time I've had her! I'd love to see pics of your Jasmine!

This is Cocoa watching TV with me and having some "us" time before I go away to Montreal this weekend (my sister who's apartment is a few doors down will watch her, very convenient!). As always, the animals know I'm going ;o(

Hello all! I'm leaving tonight for QC and won't be back til Easter Sunday! Have a great week and post lots of pictures for me to lurk through when I come back! So I've started the sad process of saying bye to my critters (and my baby! ;( Who's lovely grandparents are stealing her for the weekend!), I was giving my guinea Cocoa Bean some goodbye cuddles and I realized she had a little crust around her eye, it was very pale and almost entirely colorless, matted into the fur surrounding it. Curious, I inspected further and lightly stroked her eye. I expected her to duck under my hand (as she loves a back and head rub, she really doesn't appreciate me touching her face), but instead she nestled down on my lamp and closed her eyes and began to purr really softly. So I continued lightly stroking her eye and she seemed to truly enjoy it. I've read in a book that to groom themselves guinea pigs secrete a liquid from their eye and use it to clean with, but I have never seen it happen to her before. After a while she had enough and popped out of her trance and began wheeking and being her cute and curious self, and I ended up removing most of the crust from around her eye while I was petting her, so I just put her back in her cage and resumed her normal behaviour and activites (I then washed the dickens out of my hands, as to not pass anything along the household lol) Now was I simply grooming her like perhaps another piggy might? Or should I be concerned about the eye crust? Her eye seemed bright and appropriately wet shortly afterwards, but I just don't wanna overlook something before I leave for a few days (although luckily my sister who will watch her is a knowledgeable and attentive animal lover herself so I would trust her to immediately bring up any worrisome changes in Cocoa's behavior) *lil edit, the last picture I posted was from just yesterday, and you can see pretty well how clear and bright her eye was init if you wanna take a look! Any ideas? Thanks!

This is the GL section on URI's which include crusty eyes: www.guinealynx.info/uri.htmlThis is the section on eyes: www.guinealynx.info/eyes.htmlA URI can become a major health threat very quickly, definitely in less than the week you'll be in QC, so definitely check her carefully for any other symptoms. IF you can, make arrangements with your pig sitter and the vet to get her checked while you are gone, so you can relax and enjoy your vacation!!! Have a great time!!!
