Not much change from the other day. She still can't eat by herself and doesn't move much. I'm going to get some Ensure to syringe feed her and maybe the extra calories will give her more energy. She has lost so much weight, poor thing.

Poor wee thing, this doesn't sound good. What is the vet saying? You must be so tired but she's obviously getting lots of love and care from you x

Okay Teebers and anaira, I need some advice. There has been no change in Mocha since she perked up 3 days ago; in fact, I'd say she's not as good as she was that day. She's not eating by herself, barely moves, and is back to keeping her eyes closed. Also, she's skin and bones. I know she's weak from all she's been through, but any idea how long it takes to bounce back a just a little? She became sick 10 days ago. I'm afraid it might be time to have her put to sleep, but if you think she just needs more time, then I'm all for it.

Teebers & anaira are much more expert than me, so I apologise in advance if I have this wrong. I spoke with another vet, following Max dying after his botched operation. I was like you, nursed him day and night, even set my alarm to continue syringe feeding. Anyway, the vet told me that if they don't pick up in 48 hrs, eg eating alone and pooing, it's unlikely they will. Max was a guineapig not a rat so maybe that's different. So very sad to say this, but I would let him go to sleep now. You've done your very best and he's tired now, nature knows best . Xxx

I would strongly recommend that you take her down to the vet again. IMO she as a very remote chance of making it thru at this point - it may be possible to try some fluid/glucose injections under the skin, however given that she has probably exhausted all her energy reserves by now I don't think she has much chance. The kindest thing for her may be to consider euthanasia.
Margaret, guinea pigs are a little bit different in that they, like rabbits and horses, are prone to potentially lethal gut stasis (ileus) following any anaesthetic. This is one of a variety of reasons why these species are considered greater anaesthetic risks than many other domestic animals.

I'm not a vet, but from experience; I doubt she'll make it now. Pretty much what Teebs said. Is she still having trouble breathing, too?

I don't know anything about ratties, but know about pet owners, so sending lots and lots of hugs your way. Whatever happens, know you did the very best you could by her

This is from last year when I first adopted Mocha. I had to make the decision to have Mocha put to sleep, it was her time. Thanks for all the advice and support, everyone.

I'v been out of town the last few days and mulled over whether to get another girl or not. Don't know why I bothered thinking, because of course I will, lol! I have my eye on a a few that need homes, so we'll see.
