Hello friends
I just thought I would let you know that I am a mum to two baby Leaf Insects. They are absolutely adorable and seem happy and settled. I do not have a digital camera at the moment so it is obviously awkward to post pics, but I will try and post some when they are a little older.
Hugs
Jo xx

Oooh exciting! They are amazing little creatures, I'm sure you will enjoy watching them, and seeing them grow will be fun! Have you got 'paint' on your computer? Perhaps you could draw them for us haha?!!

Aw! Congrats, Jo! Didn't you have a stick insect for a while, Bean? I love to see the different ones outside, and what they do!

I have to confess, stickies kind of freak me out a little... I always have to get hubs to relocate them if one wanders onto my vegetables....

Been eons since I've seen one in the wild. Used to see them when I was a kid, but it's been at least 40 years since I saw one in the garden. Not sure if they're even still around my region?

Thank you for your lovely replies ladies but I have some sad news. One little chap died and I know the people who I bought him from are out of the country and needlesss to say I am very upset. I hope the other ltitle chap is going to be all right. I am doing everything I should.
Oh how I would love them to be wild here, sorry monkeyandthechimp love, I would tell them to stay out of your garden LOL!!
Oh Bean and Margaret sweeties, you really don't want to see my interpretation of art. Here is a link which has leafies on it.http://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UTF-8&fr=slv1-bt8&p=leaf%20insect%20photos

Oh no, I'm sorry about the little one you lost, Jo. I'm pretty sure the same thing happened to my sister despite doing everything she'd been told to, so maybe it's just one of those things - rubbish though.
I agree it would be amazing to have these guys in the wild in this country! Yes you're right 3piggles, we had stick insects a few years back - amazing little things!

Gosh... You can all have them!!!! I'll post them across the globe for you! So sorry about the loss Jo! Insects are so hard, because you'd never know if something is wrong or not... Kind of like piggers, but worse... xxxBec

How long do stickies usually live? It wasn't your fault Jo, insects must be so difficult to keep and we know you would do everything as best you could xx

Thank you my friends for all your kind messages and i am happy to say that so far the remaining little chap (who I have named Archie) seems very well. Yes Bean love it is rubbish but as you say M&TC sweets, you never really know if they are poorly. You get to pick up on certain signs but it is never easy. Thank you Margaret hun for your kind words. Stickies last for varying amounts of times but once they have had ther last shed and become fully formed, it isn;t usually very long before they go. It is such a downside to something which gives me and many others great pleasure. I love them like the other pets so it is so sad for me when they go.
Loves and hugs to you all
Jo xx

That's something I've never understood about insects. They spend most of their short lives getting to be adults, only to mate and die? I wish they could live in their adult state longer.

I think if your lifespan is a set length, being young and virile for most of it is a pretty good deal - I'd take it!

Definitely Bean, not a bad life in the big scheme of things xx

I supposed as long as they only live while they are young and virile, there are no old ones. No one needs to help care for them, though in most mammal species, they don't really mind. The elders are the wise sages, not the discards. Hmmm?

Yes they do only have a short life span. One of the beetles I have looked up spends a few years as a baby but once he has all growed up so to speak, he only lives for a very short while. I am getting a couple of Katydids as soon as I can.

I didn't know Katydids were something one got? They are wild here, or some version of them anyway. I think it's nice that you include insects in your menagerie

Oh yes 3piggles love, Katies are quite popular pets now. I have always had buggies of some sort, including cockroaches, mantids, beettles and many more. I am still not happy with the advice I have been given regarding the dize of the katies' home, I think that they should be provided with more space than I have read about or been told.
Little lone leafie is called Archie and I am pleased to say he is doing well. They are replacing the other one for me but I still have the pay the poastage whch is £8 - nothing these days but a lot to us at the moment.
Thank you for your interest my darlings.

I think £8 is loads for postage, Jo - why is it so much? Even if it needs a signature, it's not going to be big or heavy enough to cost that much, surely? I'm glad Archie is doing well anyway, and I'm sure you're looking forward to getting him his new friend.
Just this morning, my son found a photo of the Indian stick insects we had a few years back - he would really like to get some more!

Oh Jo I had a laugh, Archie is the perfect name for a wee leafie. Like Bean, Gosh I think £8 is expensive, maybe it was the box size. I know with Royal Mail, it's not just the weight if it's over a certain size it costs more. But hey come on leafie must be tiny. Anyway glad he's well. Bet it's relaxing for you watching these wee creatures xxxxx
