Harry and Weasley are doing well. We've been busy in our household. I've only had time so far to just stay on top of reading everyone's posts. I thought I'd take the time this morning while I wait for the cable repair man to show up and try and play catch up on my posts.
I keep playing with their cage setup. Tomorrow is Hogwarts cleaning day. I'm going to change it up once again.
Thanks for the suggestion of just throwing fleece into Hogwarts. I've been trying that by putting loose fleece in each of their igloos. I think they are liking that.

I love watching them play, and wondering what they're thinking. We put human ideas to their actions, but I wish I knew if we were right.

I wonder right along with you. My hubby keeps thinking that they should behave like dogs. He even goes to call them "doggies" crazy hubby

They are so totally nothing like dogs. They are a lot more like my bunnies were. I see a lot of the same sense of satisfaction in both.

That's what I keep telling him! He knows they are piggies, but thinks they should learn like dogs. I told him that this is the reason why they were more skittish around him (except for when he was holding them...they liked that). He finally is starting to understand, and he is reaping the benefits. They are much less skittish around him.

I noticed two new behaviors today. They may have been occuring for a while, I don't know. 1. Harry no longer rumbllestruts. Yay! It had been getting ridiculous. 2. Weasley now rubs his bottom marking areas I ended up changing Hogwarts today. I used a "fleece" blanket. I'm starting to thinkn that the manufacturers added some sort of water repellent since the pee doesn't quickly or easily soak through. Argh The boys are now letting me rub their heads while in Hogwarts. This is a big deal to me. I can't tell you how excited I'm about it! I couldn't hold out for the 3 month mark to bath them. They were getting quite smelly. I think it is because they have been in pens that have had no absorbant layer for a while and have been walking through a lot of pee. I washed them and dried them with a towel and blow dryer. Weasley is still sniffle free!

Glad hubby is beginning to understand they are nothing like dogs. He will enjoy them more once he understands that. I can't ever seem to go more than 2 months without bathing Henry. But soaking his feet to clip his nails, doing a boar cleaning, and cleaning his ears every 2 weeks with diluted tea tree oil seems to help. I'm stealing your fleece idea. I have a ton of extra fleece that I will be cutting into strips now. :-) So happy to hear there are less sniffles in your house!

Sent from my SCH-I435 using proboards I think it is time for me to learn something new because when I read "boar cleaning" and "cleaning his ears...with diluted tea tree oil" I was like, "huh?" I haven't heard of these practices before. I'm going to have to research these and see if my boys need these done to them too. Before you cut up all of your fleece blankets, I recommend trying just one. I'm not 100% positive that the blanket will work in lieu of fleece from a fabric store due to a protective treatment against water making their wicking ability diminished. I'll be happy to update how my experiment works.

So glad Morty hasn't needed a boar cleaning. Stinky! Ever since I changed to fleece, I haven't needed to do it.
Silamb, fleece wicks liquid off the surface to an absorbent layer underneath. What arexyou using for the absorbent layer? As long as you don't use fabric softener on either layer, it should wick.

I am hoping now that Henry is a single there will be less butt dragging, which should equal less hay lodged in places it shouldn't be.
I use the diluted tea tree oil on ears because I read it helps prevent mites. The fact that I like the way it smells is a nice bonus.

I'll try the tea tree oil. I bought some for another use and didn't use it. When I do nails, once a monthish, I put about an inch of warm water in the soak and soak them for a few minutes. I think that tends to loosen and disolve a lot of gunk, as I've seen it soften and disolve dried on poo on their hands and feet. Might reduce the amount of uckyness

I soak feet too before clipping nails. After I'm done I rub Henry's feet with coconut oil to help keep them from getting too dry.

When I was cleaning the poo in Hogwarts, I was just piling things on top of things. Next thing I know I see Weasley in the igloo on top of the blue plastic box. Of course, by the time I got my camera, he had hopped out. He is my jumper. I've found him a couple of times on top of an igloo. Here is the pile of hidies. He wasn't in the top igloo but the igloo under the white box and on top of the blue box. Because he seems to like to jump up, I put the blue box on top of the white box (picture attached). I've already seen him in it once. Attachments:

Here are some pictures of hubby and me today when we were watching TV. Hubby thought he'd be funny with putting Harry on his head. Harry kept sliding off. I had Weasley on my chest. Next thing I know Harry jumps from hubby's shoulder to my chest to join Weasley. Attachments:

Litter/hay bin.... So I've been changing up the litter and hay bins. I haven't been happy with each incarnation. I decided to follow Faafaa's example and get a second corner litter pan. I put the newspaper litter in the corners of the pans. I find this method is my favorite so far. I use less newspaper litter, throw away less hay, they don't pee on as much hay, they can eat together or separate, they can dig, sit in it, and sit outside and eat. Attachments:

I hope the new set up works. I don't think there is a way to not waste hay, but limiting the waste as much as possible helps. I have noticed that certain types of hay end up on their kitchen floors, so I"m figuring that's the hay they pulled out to get it out of the way of what they wanted. My hay holders do a really decent job of not letting too much hay get pulled out before they can reach what they want. It also prevents them from using their food hay as a bathroom, then not wanting to eat it. I would have loved to see him in the pigloo. They are creative and adventurous, in their own ways, and I love watching them experience life

I might try some of those corner pans. I put a litter tray in their cage a few weeks ago (one I had spare from the buns) - I put it in the corner they did most of their wees in and they've carried on going there so that helps keep things clean. Someone needs to kick me up the bum to go in to town and buy some fleece though as I haven't done that yet.

I bought the quilted pad, washed it and got it all ready. Never got the fleece. My pads are getting scrummy, especially when put next to slightly used pieces. I'll makecit a cold weather project.

Well, I picked up a couple of metres of fleece today! Just one lot while I try out if it works. There was a light blue fleece with white stars on which I loved (and actually have some PJ bottoms in thanks to my mum!) but I went for the dark blue version on the grounds it wouldn't make such a feature of their poos!
