Love the cage and the pets! They seem to get along great Happy September, everyone I'm not sure about getting along the kitten jumped up and grabbed the side wire, then clambered up on top. She's really interested in the pigs. The pigs are not that fussed with her. Although when I held her at the side of the cage, one pig came close and sniffed at the kitten. Then strolled away. The pigs know the kitten can't get in, so they don't appear scared. I wouldn't put them together though. I know from playing that she has strong back legs for kicking and her front claws are sharp. It would be too easy for accidental injuries and that's even without the pigs fighting back. I don't want a full-on fight leading to me, kitten and pigs at the vets for treatment. Looking through the fence is the safest.

If the pigs feared the kitten, they would run and hide when it came near, even with the cage around them. I don't think they have that clear an understanding of the cage as protection. The houses would be protection. The kitten is being a kitten, and animals seem to know when it's just a baby acting like a baby I'm not saying let them be together, simply that the pigs seem totally nonplussed about the kitten's presence, and that's great. Kitten can't get in, piggies can't get out. You really do have a great cage. I'm really into using things we can get anywhere, which means for reasonable prices, to create great habitats, and that's what you've done!

Haha! Great picture, the kitten does look like she's thinking what cool toys they'd be!
We've just got back from a few days at the seaside - some good, hearty fun with buckets and spades and novelty inflatables. All our animals appear to have been well cared for too.
Who wants to help me with the washing? There's sand in everything!

gimme some hay! She loves to play with hay. She'll play alone on the floor or I'll grab a long piece of hay and tease her with it. Saves getting my hands and arms scratched. Maybe I should make a hay bed for the cat. What do you think? As I said before it's my first experience of cats. They're really lively. I wish I'd had one before. But this kitten is kinda like a baby too. She gets more aggressive when playing on the sofa just before sleep time. She almost needs to nip my finger then hold onto it before dozing off to sleep. If something wakes her up soon after, she'll open her eyes slightly, then I have to "soothe" her back to sleep. It's really weird!

Maybe a plush toy would help her fall asleep, and stay asleep. She can hold it in her paws. I'm not sure what's available in your area, but I'm sure there are some great kitten-sized toys. The hay bed might not be a bad idea, but it's likely she likes the hay in and around the guinea pig cage, because she gets the guinea pig company Nice tomatoes coming Bean. It may have been a slow growing season, with all the cool weather, but at least you're getting some thing

I've got some apples nearly ready too and the bottom of the garden is full of bramble, so there are lots of blackberries ready to pick (and a lot that have gone off because we totally forgot about them with being away etc!).

Good luck with the tomatoes Bean love, they look as if they are going to be beauties. Cats are very lively and love to play especially as kittens. I used to tie a piece of paper onto the end of a piece of string and watch them chase it, even our adult cat loves playing this way. Lots of blackberries coming out here too, I just hope I am able to make a blackberry pie this year.

If you plant catnip, especially in a low planter, the kitten will go nuts over it. It's great fun to watch, and since the kitten is having great fun, too, it entertains everyone I had some planted in my garden, when I had a cat. He used to roll in it, then kook all over the place, happy as could be. I dried some toward the end of each outdoor growing season, and put it in old socks I left around on the floor. Most people have no end of single socks, so why not make them into cat toys. Other cats would come into the garden to try HIS catnip, and he would defend it. Seems as if it would have been fun to get high with other cats, but apparently that's not how it works in the cat world.

I found a couple of split ones and have discovered that it's not good to leave them without water for ages (such as while we were away) and then suddenly do a massive watering (such as I did when we got back home!) - lesson learned! (I actually think I might have found that out on a previous year of growing them, but things don't stay in my head long these days!)

I have heard this about catnip love and wonder how it makes them feel. I know you can get catnip toys but all our moggy wants to do these days is sleep and chase birdies lol! You are not alone Bean darling, I cannot remember what I did did minutes ago lol!

Have to chuckle at your loss of memory, Bean. I'm hoping now that we've closed on the old house, and everything else is starting to come together, I can start remembering why I went into a room. I've been squirreled beyond belief. Went in the kitchen to make some coffee yesterday.Cleaned the kitchen. Reorganized under the kitchen sink. Did a drawing of how I think I had the pans hung on the pot rack at the last house, vacuumed the house, and was doing Wheekers, when I remembered I never made my coffee, or got to drink it! No, letting them dry out, then flooding them isn't good for them. That's why the self-watering pots are so great. You can put the water in the reservoir, and let the plant use that while you're away. I hope you get some good tomatoes My grandmother had brambles at her house, and we used to pick the blackberries and eat them, in the summer. My mother wouldn't have any in the yard, because they attract snakes, and I got my phobia from her. She also cursed us for getting the juice all over our clothes Jo, I think having a catnip plant to roll in is much more to their liking than the catnip toys. I cut the plant back and dried the leaves just before it would have died off in the Fall, so our cats got to follow their catnip indoors, and just keep it up. Also, having a sock full of it is much easier to roll in or on than a little felt mouse full of it, so the cats played with the sock a lot. I don't know what they feel, or what they're thinking, but I do know it's something that makes them feel really great Sleeping is a sign of getting older. All of the things we used to do, when we could stay up all night, now tire us and send us to bed early Chasing birds is one of those useless pursuits where the cat knows the bird is out of reach, but can't stop trying to catch the motion Keeps your cat busy and out of trouble When Dementacat got really old, I build a window seat/bed for him, so he could lie by the window, watch the birds and everything else, and if he fell asleep, he was on something soft and snuggly. It was just a window seat kit I got at the pet store, with a soft cushion on it, instead of the fleece covering. We closed on our old house yesterday, so we are officially no longer involved with that house, and can concentrate on the new house. The pavers arrived at the new house at 7 this morning, and are actually all done. Less than 3 hours. Not bad! They are doing our neighbors driveway and walkways, too. They should be done by noon! Now we can really start working on the lawn/garden areas, as we have edges! We bought a ride-on lawnmower and a trailer to use to get aggregate out of the community pit down the road, and that arrived while the paving was in progress. I let the pavers know, so they told the delivery guys where to park, etc. Very helpful Hubby can start bringing in the aggregate, and building up around the edges of the driveway. Nice to be able to do that, finally, and the paved drive and walks look so great!

Gosh, I wish I was as efficient when I went to make a cuppa - you got loads done!
Great news about the old house and there are lots of great developments with the new one too - it's all coming together for you!
Does anyone have any opinions on smart meters? They're the new type of gas/ electricity meter which use wireless networks (similar to mobile phones) to constantly communicate with your energy company and provide accurate billing. There's a massive push to have them in all homes here within the next few years, but many people are massively against them saying there's evidence of them causing health problems all over the world, due to increase in exposure to wireless radiation.
I was vaguely aware that some people were sensitive to electromagnetic radiation, but hadn't really registered it in terms of smart meters (it was someone who loves crazy conspiracy theories who warned me of the dangers!). Of course the energy companies say they're safe.
We haven't got round to getting them yet, just down to bad organisation yet - the energy company have been emailing us to get them fitted.

We had them at the last house, and have them here. It's more like BlueTooth on your phone as far as the signal goes, and doesn't emit any more electricity than the outlets in your house do. If someone has trouble walking past an outlet in their house, they might have trouble walking past the meter, but otherwise, they shouldn't have any trouble. That's actually all we have, now, no more of the old meters. Downside is meter readers get laid off, as the meters can be read so quickly, the utility company doesn't need as many people reading the meters, just to get all of the meters read in a short amount of time. People don't realize how much radiation is in their lives constantly. An office cubicle full of plastic-coated binders emits enough radiation to be picked up half way around the world. TVs give off a great deal of radiation, as do computer monitors. People tend to panic over the idea of radiation, without realizing they live with it all day every day. Unless a person has trouble with the regular amount of radiation that's constantly in their lives, they won't have any problem with the meters. The people are here to fix the problems that can be fixed now. We've only been in the house for 3 months, and they come back after 9 months to fix any problems caused by settling. So they won't fix the crack in the ceiling, which is just a hairline crack, anyway. They're going to try to buff out some of the scratches, wash the walls, put up some extra filler strips where needed, etc. That should fix most of the oversights, and we'll be pleased with that. Once the house has finished settling, they'll come back and do the rest of it. It's nice to be getting all of these things done, so we can really settle in

For some reason I keeping popup windows about Firefox updates that take over my view of Wheekers. I understand these are not legitimate, so I don't install them- but I think it's not an issue with the website but my computer.
I'm looking into this, I just wanted to let everyone know I'm still around- it's hard to post when these popups keep happening. (It's not a closable window, it actually takes me away from Wheekers!)

That's odd - hope you can get to the bottom of it. Technology is brilliant but when it goes wrong, it's a blooming pain! I won't get started on the phone troubles I've had recently, but I can't wait to get rid of my current one!
3piggles, I think the lady's argument was that they tell you it's the same radiation as other household devices, but it's actually much stronger to the point in can effect young girls' fertility. But as I say, she's a conspiracy theorist! I do agree with her on some other stuff like fracking, but other things she talks about I can't quite see the problem! I am interested enough to read up on it though, but not in a hurry!
It reminded me of the main character's brother from Better Call Saul - he's virtually housebound because of electromagnetic sensitivity (or the effect he thinks it has - there were a few hints it may be psychosomatic, but I know there are some people who are adversely affected by it).
A sunny week ahead here - woo hoo!
