Oh I'm so sorry to hear about little runty, you must be gutted. Snuggie sounds like she did so well with trying to get her to feed and snuggle - often young piggy mums don't make the best mums, but with her care and you looking out for her too, she had the best possible chance. It's sad that she simply wasn't strong enough to keep going. I'm glad the other three are doing well.
The photos are adorable! I'm reaching through the laptop now, please pass one to me for a cuddle!
I'd definitely like to see them in another week or so to be sure, and please don't rely on my opinion, but I'd say. - girl - girl - boy
It's so much easier to tell at a couple of weeks though, as their bits are often a bit swollen at first which can make a girl look a bit more like a boy. But the female opening is a distinctive Y shape and the male an O.
I'd say practise gently pressing just above Mr C's penis as getting it to pop out gives you a definite answer (it'll be harder to do with babies, so practising on an older pig can help you get used to it). But given his recent op, he's probably had enough meddling down there!
Sleep tight lovely little runty x

I am so very sorry to hear this darling, it is very sad indeed. That has happened to me so I know exactly how you feel. The others are simply gorgeous and I have melted, I too want cuddles.

I'm so sorry about little runty girl. Popcorn free, little guinea girl Huge hugs to you I couldn't tell about the first one, as the picture was a bit blurry, and I really don't want to guess and be totally wrong! I get 2 to be a boy and 3 to be a girl, so Bean and I are totally opposite. This is why it's best to wait until about 2.5 weeks, and check them then. They will be that much more developed by then, as they do mature quickly. They are so incredibly cute

Hi everyone!! Thank you guys so much for checking in on us and sending your prayers for our Runty! Oh how I miss her/him so much πͺbut I would love to give you guys a update on the other 3. We have not named the babies yet as I am waiting until their vet appointment on the 19th of April to be sexed the correct way. All 3 are thriving and doing so well they have learned to drink out the water bottle eat their pellets and love hiding in their hay sacks while they eat hay! They do chase mommy around and bother her a lot until she smacks them in the face with her paw π it's the cutest thing because I can always tell when she is annoyed. She is doing great with her nursing them as they are very greedy and always want to eat like their daddy ( every time he hears a bag he starts yelling at me and comes to the cage ). Chocolate is doing amazing he had his vet check up 2 days ago and the vet said his incisions look amazing and almost healed very small part left that needs healing. But she did say she believes he may have mites because she noticed flaky skin so she suggested I wait until I bring Snuggie in for her appointment so she can examine her and than treat everyone at the same time. I asked her how this could happen she said they could of came to me with them so now I feel horrible if such is true but they have each been to the vet and not once was this mentioned. But chocolate is such a happy piggie now he popcorns all day long unlike before I believe he was depressed as Snuggie ignored him and now the babies always play with him on the other side of the cage. And the vet also said at Snuggie's visit on the 19th I can start introducing Chocolate and Snuggie back together and the babies too π. So I am sending some piggie snuggles through the computer as I upload some new pictures of the babies π

Ooh, 10th of April! Excellent, Jo I totally agree with Bean about waiting to try to sex them. The boys need to be separated from the girls at 3 weeks old, but for now, just let them grow and be babies I also totally agree with you posting lots of pictures Do you have a cage for the boys, if they don't go in with Mr. C? Oh my I am just seeing this now, my apologies. Yes I have my original cage which unfortunately is a store bought cage as I didn't know anything at the time and Snuggie only spent 2 weeks in that cage until I got her new one. I am hoping I only have one boy as that's what I can see from their little parts and I'm praying my friend still is able to take the baby as she has a piggie years ago. But her daughter has been ill lately and I'm just not sure. But if not he will stay with me and I will talk with our vet and see what age is good enough to neuter and than I will neuter and figure out who's personality works best together and house them according but dad and son will be separated they will each live with a female or two! And than I will build a nice big c&c cage.

Absolutely adorable! I'm glad you have an appointment to get the babies sexes, and clear everyone for the next step. Mites are killed with a product called Ivermectin. If given in injection form, it is very painful, and it takes three injections for all of the pigs, to make sure all of the mites are killed. Mites are often living under the skin, but don't become active until there is a chemical change, usually from stress. Being separated from Snuggie, getting neutered, Snuggie having the babies, etc. are more than enough reason for Mr. C. to have a chemical change that activates the mites. Unfortunately, once one gets the mites, they all get the mites, so whatever the treatment costs, it's times 5 for all the pigs. I hate putting the pigs through the rounds of Ivermectin shots. There is oral Ivermectin, and topical Ivermectin. Topical is the least expensive, and you can do it yourself, if you can figure it out. I bought the bottle of Ivermectin for $10, but never figured out how to use it. It's available in feed and grain stores, as it's used as a parasite killing wash for livestock. The oral is available online. Again, you have to determine the doses, and they will be different for each pig. If the vet says she thinks Mr. C has mites, as her to at least get the oral Ivermectin, determine the doses, and treat the pigs that way. Injections are quicker, but I think they are cruelly painful. Revolution does not kill mites. It's a med for outdoor pigs that could pick up a lot of parasites from nature. Some vets seem to think they are interchangeable. Good luck with that. Oh, and don't let the vet do a skin scraping to determine if he has mites. The scraping is extremely painful if they do have mites, and is inconclusive in the majority of the cases. If you have one boy and two girls, you have the option of creating different herds, each led by a neutered boar, and consisting of a certain number of sows. If Snuggie and Mr. C are bonded, it may be best to put the other three in a different cage, and have two herds. You have a lot of options, should your friend not be able to take the little guy

Thank you for the wonderful pictures lovey and for sharing them with us. It sounds as if they are all doing so well. Mites are ghastly things but it should be easy enough to get rid of them. Thanks for the updates hunni.

Oh goodness, cuteness overload! What an adorable bunch of pigs you have and those babies are just ridiculously adorable! The one with black sort of wavy fur really looks like (s)he wants to come and live with me haha!
I'm so pleased to hear everyone is doing so well, especially after the sadness of losing little runty. Snuggie is being a great mum and is starting to know her bubs are growing up and can stand on their own four paws a bit more! It does amuse me when they start getting a bit intolerant of the babies antics after mollycoddling them! I'm glad the bubs are interacting with Mr C and keeping him amused in his quarters - he sounds like a super happy chappy and it's great he's healing up so nicely after his op. Think how happy he will be when he gets to have friends living with him too.
Sorry to hear about the suspected mites. I think I've only had to deal with it once, but I went with the oral stuff too - it's effective and far less traumatic (not to mention loads cheaper!). You can do the further doses at home too, so it saves a whole lot of back and forthing with lots of pigs (I had 6 when I suspected them)! I'm not sure how old the babies will need to be before they can be treated?
As 3piggles said, mites are so common and are often on pet shop pigs, but are more likely to cause problems if the animal has been unwell, so Mr C's recent op could have just caused a chink in his armour against them. See what the vet thinks when you take him back.
It could also just be a bit of dry skin from not being able to groom quite as well while he's been a bit out of sorts, especially if it's combined with a change of weather (when the weather changes and their coats adapt, we sometimes find a bit of dry skin). Maybe try grooming him a bit more to help clear away any loose hair or skin? If you haven't noticed any sore skin or him scratching, then perhaps it's just that. But good call having him checked over by the vet if you have any concerns.
Does Snuggie feel like she's starting to put on weight yet? Possibly not quite yet as she's still feeding her babies, but hopefully now she's not longer pregnant and the more the babies eat themselves, her body can start looking after itself and getting stronger. She should have so much more energy to be playful once she's finished her mothering duties.
They really are all so adorable, thanks for the pictures!
