I wouldn't have complained about it being a bit sunnier myself (although I'd stop before I got to Shades's heat level)! Plus the cool, cloudy weather has made my veg growth almost grind to a halt. Hey ho, I know not everyone enjoys the sun, so I'm glad it's suited at least some of the population!
We had loads of indoor activities scouted out for our recent seaside jaunt, but ended up outside for most of it as the weather was much kinder than expected.
Baz, your friend's partner sounds nutty. I kind of associate that level of paranoid insecurity with tumultuous teenage relationships, and am always surprised when adults think and behave that way! Glad you had a good catch up anyway, and I totally get what you mean about how you can just pick straight up where you left off with your oldest friends - it's a great feeling!

Yes it is Piggles love, it is a bit brighter today for holiday makers but my no means beach weather. Sorry about your veggies Bean hunni, they don't like cold weather do they? I hope they buck up again soon.

We've been really lucky this summer to have had a lot of sunny days punctuated with showers, or overnight rain. We've had enough good rainy days to water everything, and fill the reservoirs, but not so many that vacations were ruined and vacation spots lost business because of it. Right now it's 87F with bright sun, but an ever present chance of a pop up shower. We will water the gardens and the lawn tonight. It's nice to get just enough rain to not have to water, but we can't schedule that The garden is doing fabulously, and would probably be even farther along had we fed it more the first couple of months. We didn't think about all the nice rain we were getting to water it was also washing out all the nutrients. It was like night and day after they were fed! We have Japanese beetles eating the veggies, so we have the traps all around the veggie beds. I still pick them off the basil periodically, and drop them in the trap with their friends. Sorry, Jo, but I want my veggies and herbs. The second crop of lettuce is almost ready to cut. It seems to take a few weeks for it to regrow, but it does. The dill flowered early. I'm not sure how to keep it from flowering. The pigs love dill, so I'd love to find a way to keep it growing. I'll have to google it. I', glad Bean had great weather for the beach, and hope you get some decent weather, too, Jo.

Baz, your friend's partner sounds nutty. I kind of associate that level of paranoid insecurity with tumultuous teenage relationships, and am always surprised when adults think and behave that way! A sharp contrast would be my wife- I have a strictly platonic relationship with a woman I knew back in high school; we never dated but did hang out a bit. After we caught up on FaceBook I was able to have my friend Janet meet my wife, and they got along fine. Also, I occasionally helped Janet out with a favor (helped her move, or fixed something wrong with her TV/DVD hookup) without my wife present and she need never have worried that any funny business was going on. It's a blessed relief, really.

It is nice when you can give platonic relationship and the other half not be jealous. Paul is always off to the supermarket with one of our lady friends and I know there is nothing in it, he is just taking them shopping because they don't have a car. I am glad your friend and your wife get on so well Baz love. The weather here is dreadful Piggles hun. I am going to google Japanese beetles; I don't think I have come across them.

It's hot and humid here today, Jo, so it's not a good day to have to work outside. I did my whole biking route without perspiring. Then I stepped out onto the porch to wash fingerprints off the window. Two minutes, tops, and I was soaked. Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler and rainy, so it will be nice to have some of this humidity fall in the form of rain, instead of just making the air really heavy. Sunday is supposed to be better. We actually still had 98% humidity at 9 a.m., which is outrageously humid. I'm glad your wife trusts you, Baz. I think it's imperative that couples trust each other. I do hope your friends fiance' has changed, and is more trusting and accepting of his friends. Thinking every call, every look, every note is a threat, is a terrible way to live. Vic used to help friends move, too, as well as help them with their computer problems. I wasn't jealous of them. Glad I didn't have to help them move, and knew about their computer problems. Life is much better that way Jo, my paternal grandfather used to drive his wife's sisters to church on Sunday, and drive them back. He didn't go to church, and neither did my grandmother, but he had a car, and the ladies needed a ride. He'd go across the street to the Moose Hall, one of those men's groups that does some civic good, along with a lot of drinking, smoking and schmoozing, lol

That has tickled me Piggles hunni, bless him, boozing away whilst his relatives were talking to God. I agree love, trust is very important. I am glad you managed a workout without perspiring. It is horrible at the end isn't it and all I wanted to do was dive in the shower? Hugs Jo xx

this little grasshopper-like guy was on the wall yesterday and I had to save it from hysterical screams and rolled up newspapers

He is adorable Shades love, I am so pleased that you saved him. Why do people want to hurt things like this, it makes me so cross? They are lovely. Thank you so very much. Thank you for the snail piccy too Bean hunni, he is rather like my Sidney or Sidders as Paul calls him. These are gorgeous photos.

I'm impressed- I never knew a snail could reach such a size! On an unrelated note, slight grumble: another board I like to frequent got an upgrade and got the equivalent of the "smite" button- a "dumb" button. Already it's been put into use, rather inexplicably, too.

I leave nasty boards well alone hunni, I have no time for them or the people who are not happy unless they are making others miserable.

I leave nasty boards, too. There's so much negativity in the world, I'm not going to join a forum with it. Ooh, I love the snail. So regal I'm glad you saved the grasshopper-like guy, Shades. We catch them and put them back outside. We even do that with house flies, if we can, as annoying as they are. Hubby's company does a lot of promotions, and the latest one included 7" digital picture frames. He brought home two, and loaded the cards with photos. It's been great seeing the last group of piggies, Morty, Mia and Momo. I do miss them. It's also been great seeing how much some of the house plants have changed over the years. There are some great photos, but he didn't edit out the overly exposed ones or the blurry ones, so we have those, too. Another winter project for him We're having some great weather. Yesterday and today were warm but not oppressively hot, and very dry. Rain tomorrow, but not a wash out, and generally a pretty decent week until the weekend. No complaints here. We had the windows open overnight, and the a/c didn't come on until 10:45 this morning, so saved some money, too

Don't get me wrong; the board's got a lot of good people on it- it's just a bit of a shock that some have really jumped into the new selection of "reaction" options with a vengeance. (That picture I posted in the "sky" thread? Someone labeled it "dumb". I'm more perplexed than anything; I figure if someone wasn't going to like something I posted, it would likely be one of my Photoshop jokes and not a picture of the sky.)

I can't understand why, when people simply aren't interested in something (which is fair enough), they can't just move on without saying anything - why go out of your way and make an effort to try to make someone feel bad? It definitely says more about that person than anything else, but those options to smite etc do seem to give that sort of person a legitimate outlet.
I do worry about the sort of behaviour the internet can breed, especially in young people - that feeling that it's okay to go round making snarky little comments and then moving on without a second thought.
Glad the good members outweigh the numpties on the board anyway.
How fantastic you got the digital photo frames, 3piggles - I bet it's great seeing all those pictures you haven't seen for a while.

We never get interesting little critters like that in our house Piggles love or if we do it is rare. I remember putting a centipede out once and thinking that he is rather large to be a native of this country. Eitherways I think he was glad to be out in the fresh air again. Take no notice Baz love, I am must admit I find that confusing too. Exactly Bean. if they can't say something nice then don't say anything at all. It causes bad feeling and more hatred towards themselves because I know if anyone says anything nasty about an animal, it really gets my hackles up. That is why I only go on Facebook for Insect World, there is such a lot of evil on there I just don't want to know.

There seems to have been a shift from trying to lead and teach, to forcing people to agree with an idea by bullying them or being really nasty to them. It's as if all decency has left some people, but I really don't think they ever had any decency for anyone who disagreed with them, and with forums and social media, they get to voice their lack of decency. Even if they are blocked or kicked off a forum, they had their say. They just go somewhere else and say it, and keep doing that. There will always be more forums and more social media opportunities, and they aren't going to be silenced. Whether it's terorists trying for their 15 minutes of fame, Internet trolls, or closed minded forum members, they are everywhere, and totally willing to make their opinions known I don't know if everyone has been following the results of the white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Va, but after a counter rally was attacked by a white supremacist driving a car into the crowd, killing one and injuring at least 16 others, a woman a local TV news person was trying to interview told off the interviewer, big time! She said the media brought all of this down on them. The media gives terrorists and haters the coverage they want, their 15 minutes of fame. If the media would stop covering their hate, they would stop with the public rallies. I totally agree with her, and I'm glad the news station broadcast her comments. I just wish they would all take her comments to heart, and help stop this madness.

Today it is more like October Piggles hunni, it is a disgraceful August. I am not complaining because I do not like the heat but as you say there are no happy mediums. It is either too hot or wet and grotty. I would go to the beach if it were nice as I like to get a tan but there are so many cancer scares these days, I don't know how to do it safely. I used to have a sun bed but that was years ago. I am glad you are enjoying your little early morning jaunts love, it is nice when there is no one else around isn't it? It is lovely sleeping with a window open and getting a cool breeze. I tend to have my fan on which is really relaxing.

I always have my fan on, even if on its lowest setting. I find the air too stagnant for good sleeping, even with the window open. If there's a good breeze from outside, that's different, but we tend to get nothing or everything, breeze-wise. So if I run the fan, I get the amount of air moving that I want.
We're having a cooler day today, too, and it's not supposed to be terribly hot for the rest of the week. High 70s-low 80sF, which is fine. I haven't had to get out at the crack of dawn to bike, and it's been nice being able to sleep in a bit, on the mornings when I didn't get a good nights sleep. While it will be nice to be able to have my coffee and breakfast before I got biking, I found going out later in the morning had a lot more traffic in my neighborhood, than going out early had. I was so used to just being able to ride around without having to pay too much attention to traffic, so was surprised when there was a lot of traffic.
Hubby is getting his car inspected Friday morning. He just passed 200K on it. It's a Toyota Prius. Keep you fingers crossed, though I think it will pass just fine. We've gotten all the scheduled maintenance, all along, and never had any problems with it. Mine has to be inspected in October, and while older than the Prius, only has about 75K miles on it, so that shouldn't have any issues. We've gotten the maintenance done on that one, too. While it's a good think to have to have the vehicles inspected to guarantee they are safe to be on the road, it's always a bit nerve wracking waiting to know if they passed.

We could do with more breezes here Piggleslove and less wind. You cannot beat a cold breeze when you are going to sleep. I am sorry you didn't have a good night either hunni but it sounds as if you enjoyed having the morning to yourself because you were out early. Sometimes I wish it could be like that all day. Good luck with the car. We have something here called an MOT (Ministry of Transport) and if a car is over three years old it has to have one. When I have had cars over 3 in the past it has always been a worry that they will find things wrong and it will be terribly expensive.
