Thanks Shades!
It feels more like October over here though.

The weather is dreadful here too Bean hunni, I feel so sorry for people on holiday especially with children as it is so expensive to go anywhere indoors. Hello Shades love, thank you for that great August welcome.

The only way to approach holidays at the British seaside is to go expecting miserable weather (and working out how you can still enjoy yourselves without spending a fortune) and then be pleasantly surprised if you get days on the beach!

Just an update, although it's not much of an update: I did text my buddy who I've been meaning to contact for months now two days ago, but he hasn't replied. I'll give it a few weeks or so, then I'll drop a line to our mutual friend on FaceBook to see if his number's still current. I do happen to know that he's got a lady friend who's insanely jealous and suspicious of his activity that doesn't revolve around her. It could be that she heard his phone get the text message, and immediately jump to the conclusion that it must be some woman he met, so she exploded with accusations. I'm not making any of that up; it took him months to delete his FaceBook account because every time he logged on to find the settings to erase everything, she would scream "WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO ON FACEBOOK?" and he would shut everything down. Yes, probably not the healthiest relationship. I did invite him AND her over a while back, and he replied, "She doesn't like meeting new people." Aren't my friends an interesting bunch?

Oh dear Baz love, she sounds dangerous. I feel very sorry for your friend and hope he manages to break free at some point. Thanks for the update anyway. That is true Bean hunni, I never let the weather stop me from enjoying myself but my first husband was evil if we were away and the weather wasn't brilliant. He was evil anyway but just worse then lol!

Oh, my! She sounds like a real piece of work. Doesn't like people my tuckus! Doesn't like him being exposed to other women, or seeing other couples with great relationships! Poor guy. I hope he gets free of her, and soon!
Great welcome to August, Shades. I totally missed this thread. Tuesday was hubby's birthday, and I was really busy, so didn't get to check much.
It's not bad here, especially for August, which is our hottest month. It's overcast today, but when the sun burns through, temps get into the low 80s, then back to the high 70s. Definitely not typical August weather for us. I'm sure we'll have another heat wave, but if the summer continues this way, we may actually have Fall in September, instead of having to wait until October!
We've had a lot of excellent beach weather, so hopefully the vacation spots are doing well.
I'm always surprised by how different UK weather is to New England weather, as we are literally across the pond from each other. Too bad you can't take a giant step, and be in Nova Scotia, where the weather has been great!

I hope he gets free of her, and soon! He finally got back to me, briefly! He said he's been working like crazy and life's a bit messy, but the money is great! I'll find out more on Sunday, we'll try to catch up via phone call then. (Maybe he's ditched her, maybe not.)

Wow!!!! That's horrible, Shades! We get extreme heat in some of our dessert areas, but nothing like that! Death Valley had temps like that in July, and hit record hot temps of 51C. I complain when the temps get into the high 70sF!
Last round of storms came through last night, and today is nice and dry. Temps heading for the high 70s/low 80sF, before more rain comes in for next week. This rain is important for us around here, as this is the last hurrah of our short growing season(June-August), so we're pushing all our plants to produce as much as possible. If the heat continues, so will our growing season, but once we get into September, we usually have lower highs than we do in July and August. We've had a lot of rain this summer, which is great, but it means we've had to feed the plants more than once a week, or the rain washes all the nutrients out of the soil.
Hubby hasn't been happy with the number of times he's had to mow the lawn, but he's mowing now, and it's really cool and breezy outside, so he should be fine.

I'm with Jo. I hope he's ditched the witch! Have a great visit with him Managed to get in touch with him! He's still with his lady, they're engaged (sigh) but maybe she's calmed down. We really didn't speak of her, we had too much to talk about anyway. You know it's a real good friend when you can talk about anything/everything even though you haven't talked in years. (Yeah, we kept in contact with texts, but still...) We're planning to get together in October when he's got some free time (and I'll be off call that month!)

I am so glad you managed to have a good chat to him Baz love and I do indeed the lady has calmed down and they are really happy together otherwise I dread to think. Yes, when you can pick up your conversation from where you left it many moons ago is surely the sign of a good friendship, I agree hunni.

Current temps Possibly another heavy thunderstorm coming during the night; just like last night. Maybe I'll get up to watch the light show

I like thunderstorms Shades love and the lovely cool atmosphere afterwards. Ours are only very short though, we very rarely get continuous thunder and lightning.

Nice to see your temps back in the livable range! I like thunderstorms, and the cool weather they bring, too. We're having a beautiful day, now that the humidity has dropped a bit. Yesterday was great, too. Temps in the 70sF(22-26C), with a nice breeze. We got almost an inch of rain overnight, so everything got watered. It was a bit humid when I went out to ride my bike this morning, so again, felt like peddling through water. I didn't make it quite as far as I normally do, but still do two basic trips around the neighborhood. Beach weather tomorrow, but we've managed to have the windows open and the a/c off for the last two nights, and tonight looks like another great windows open night

I know I don't like the heat but the weather here is just awful for August. Not only is it wet but quite cold too and I feel so sorry for people on their holidays.

That is lousy vacation weather, Jo It seems as if we usually either have too much cold for beach weather, or too much heat for anything but going to the beach. We have a very high mountain in New Hampshire, Mount Washington, and during the heat waves or very hot times, the peak is packed with visitors escaping the heat. Not everyone wants to go the beach and get skin cancer, so having a mountain escape is a nice option It's bad when you can do anything to escape the lousy weather, too. While it's nice to have beach weather, or a nice escape in the mountains, I don't go to the beach anymore, so I'm more concerned with the weather right at my house, where I spend the most time. We're back in a stretch of days with temps in the 80sF, but temps drop enough overnight to be able to open the windows overnight, save on the a/c bill, get some fresh, cool air. I just have to watch the morning temps to get out biking before it gets too hot. The mornings are starting out cool, but warming up very rapidly, once the sun is up. Not quite enough time to relax and enjoy my coffee, so I'm probably better off wearing a lite jacket, and getting out early. I also find I really have the neighborhood to myself around 7:30-8:30 a.m. I had to stop regularly for cars this morning, around 10 a.m., so going out earlier is better. I am happy that the original forecast of a hotter than usual July and August was wrong
