Sorry you are still suffering. Yes, the flu jab is quite specific, and doesn't even stop all kinds of flu (just the most common strains that were prevalent when the vaccine was updated) let alone other types of virus like colds. It's still good to have that extra protection though.
I hope you start feeling better soon and that it doesn't settle in on your chest too much. Make sue you see the doctor if you're having trouble getting your breath.

Hubby insists I have the flu, but it's just a really bad cold. It's running the gamut of symptoms. I'm past the constantly running nose and endless sneezing, past the dry cough, and into the coughing up the phlegm that's been gathering in my chest for the past few days. My sinuses still get a bit sore, but I only soaked in the shower once today, unlike every couple of hours yesterday. Tonight could be a rough night of coughing, but I slept for several hours today, so I'll be okay.
My daughter had the flu, with the vomiting, all over body aches, etc. That is definitely not what I have. Hubby said it's going around his office, but he hasn't gotten it, yet. Hopefully, he won't.
No, Jo, the flu shot doesn't help with colds. Seems it doesn't help much with the flu, either. I'm going to be through the worst of this by tomorrow or Wednesday. Daughter was downright sick for a good 10 days, and that's been the case for everyone I know who's had the flu. This 4-5 day cold is just that, a cold. I am sleeping better, thanks to the Nyquil. I'm also past waiting for the next cold pill, and have gone past the next time I need one, without missing it.
Temps are currently just above freezing, but didn't get there until mid afternoon. Hubby worked from home again today, because the roads were glare ice. He wasn't the only one, so It was bad everywhere. On the nightly news, they're reporting the roads are being treated repeatedly, but with the heavy rains mixed in with all the rest of the mess, a lot of the road treatment has been washing away. Expensive storm! Hubby was out shoveling. He said there's nothing to use the snow blower on, just a lot of ice and slush to more. Should be a lot better by tomorrow, once the temps drop, and everything freezes. At least the rain will have moved on, so the road treatments should have some effect.

Ha! Men always think colds are the flu! (Sorry to anyone who is offended by my sexism - I'm just speaking from my own experience!) You can still feel totally rotten with a cold, but I agree the flu has a very special way of knocking you out and making you feel like anything and everything is impossible because you feel so terrible.
Glad hub has got to avoid the awful roads and work from home. It's so much safer.

I am feeling better today thankyou ladies, I still have my cough and just a little sniffle so I think I am on the mend. I was all set to see the doctor yesterday Bean hunni, I thought I was dying. Those are the symptoms I had when I had proper flu Piggles love, I was in bed for over a week and yes, men do tend to think colds are flu sweetie so you certainly haven't offended me. I thought the flu jab would protect me from colds so I was wrong there. Still, this hasn't been as bad as it could have been.

Glad you are feeling better, Jo. I am, too, I just don't have any energy. I figure, if my body wants me to sleep, I'll sleep. Works for me!
Hubby claimed some people with my symptoms went to the doctor, and were told they had the flu. I think that's doctors processing anyone who has any type of symptom, by calling it the flu. The doctors are going to send everyone home, anyway, so they can call it anything they like.
Yes, the flu usually has a "just let me die" phase, which unfortunately is when the vulnerable do die. This is definitely not that. Just annoying. I think I got it from my granddaughter, who had a very croaky voice, and a cough. I just hope hubby doesn't get it.
Our freezing rain/sleet and general mess of weather yesterday caused a lot of accidents, and was still pretty bad in a few places this morning. Yesterday there were pictures on the news of school buses sliding down roads, taking out mailboxes and parked cars, and in one NH town, the buses had the same problems this morning. So I'm really glad Hubby worked from home, and that we don't live in the town that had the slippery roads this morning.

Thank you so much ladies, I thought I was better but it has come back. Coughing so much has made me sick as well, I don't want to eat and I think the pills, lack of food and regular cough mixture are taking their toll. My cough is really bad too, I think I may need some antibiotics.

Sorry you're feeling worse again Jo. Definitely get yourself checked out at the docs if you're concerned about your chest. You don't want it setting in there.
It sounds like the weather has been causing chaos there, 3piggles. Definitely a good time to stay off the roads, so I'm glad hub was able to work from home. Sorry you are still feeling so washed out, but it sounds like the bug is going, but fighting it has just taken it out of you. If hub keeps up his great nursing, hopefully you'll be feeling perkier soon.
Oh kids, they're such great lurgy spreaders!

Thank you Bean hunni, it is the nausea I am having to cope with now, I would rather have the cold I think. Husbands are quite good are lurgy spreading too hunni, that is how I caught mine.

Oh, naughty hub - sneeze on him to get him back! Colds are very effective at spreading themselves around though, there's not often anything you can do to avoid one if someone you're around has it.
Sorry you're feeling so nauseous. Try to eat something light anyway as you need the nutrition to fight the cold. And I don't know about you but if I feel nauseous with a cold, it's often because of all the mucous, and eating something makes me feel better and then hungrier!

I agree with Bean, Jo, you need to get to a doctor. Even if the doctor can give you something to stop the couth, so you aren't vomiting, it would be a help. You really can't afford to have it go to your lungs. Please, take care of yourself Hubby is feeling a lot better. I had the brains to make him take the Nyquil when his symptoms first started. Wish I'd had the brains to take it myself! At least it's helping my kick the cold, but this is one of those colds that just saps all my energy. I really don't have too bad a cough, nor am I very congested any longer. I just start doing something, and run out of energy. Age is not helping My bounce back rate isn't what it was 20 years ago

Thank you darlings. I have had a bit of a relapse as my cough has come back, I am also being sick, or should be if I had anything to be sick on. I am going to try and eat something when I have finished on here but it doesn't appeal to me at all at the moment. I will take your advice ladies as this is going on for too long. I am so glad hubby is feeling better Piggles sweetie. I am totally lacking n energy at the moment as almost continuous coughing really takes its toll. I should sneeze on him back, that would be great Bean hunni. I will try and eat something I promise.

Definitely, Jo, sneeze or cough on him. Include him in the fun!
This is a cold that hangs on. I go from feeling fine, to not being able to get enough breath, to being active, to feeling lousy, all in the same hour. Hubby was doing better, didn't take the Dayquil(because he was doing better), so now he's not doing as well. He has the cough, and got dizzy this morning. I'm making myself do things. Laundry is done, except for the bedding, which isn't part of the regular laundry. Hubby installed an electrical outlet on the end of the kitchen island. Now we don't have to plug in the fan in the middle of the front of the island, and run extension cords across the cabinets.
I did some hand sewing, repairs on clothes, and put away the laundry I've been avoiding since the cold started. I have a whole new batch coming in, so need to make room for it.
Hubby's on a sneezing jag. I may have to get him his own roll of toilet paper, but for now, he's willing to use the hand sanitizer, so that's a start.
50F outside, so once again, I have as many windows open as possible. I will open the kitchen windows, now that he's not working in that any longer, and just air out as many of the germs as possible.
It seems never ending, and after going in to work one day last week, he may be working from home again tomorrow. I'll give him another Dayquil in about 45 minutes, which should bring us right to the time to take the Nyquil, and get some sleep. Neither of us slept that well last night, so I want him to take the Nyquil early enough to go to sleep when he wants to. We took it late, last night, because he was watching a late basketball game.
Back to the colder weather tomorrow, but for now, airing out the place!

It sounds as if you are doing so well despite having a cold Piggles love but I am sorry it is lingering for so long. My cold has gone but the cough and nausea hasn't. How is hubby coping with not being well, men tend to be terrible? The hot weather doesn't help either love, I really don't like being ill when it is hot as I, like you, suffer in the first place. I hope his sneezing stops soon, I have run through a few toilet rolls myself.

Hubby is doing fine. He's feeling pretty lousy, but knows I just went through it all, so he's not pulling the man flu act on me. He used to do that when we were first married, but he outgrew it, lol I helped him understand the difference between a wife and a mother He is working from home today. We'll see how he's feeling tomorrow. Colder today, but still above freezing, so I have one window open, letting the germs out. I hope you can get past the coughing and vomiting, Jo. That's no fun at all

Haha, they do feel sorry for themselves don't the Piggles love? I like the telling him what the difference is between a wife and a mother, usually, we have to be both.
I am not feeling quite so sick today thank you Piggles sweetie but the cough is dreadful. I think I need some antibiotics.

I'm glad you're not so sick today Jo, but definitely get that cough checked out as it's been ages now. It might be it's just taking its time, but if it's developing into anything else you want to be on top of it.
Glad hub isn't being too terrible a patient, 3piggles! And that you're well enough to start getting things back in order.
Another month that's almost gone in the blink of an eye!

I know. January is gone, and February is about to start. Our Medicare insurance supplement plan just sent me the bill saying it was due Feb. 1, and of course, the first available date to pay is through my bank is Feb.2 They'll get their money, but it would really help if they'd send the bills well in advance of the due date, so they get their money on time. It's only going to be a few days late, but that didn't have to be the case. We're back in a seasonably cold period, which is nice. I've had the bedroom window open at night, and it's so nice to have fresh air. I sleep much better with it. This is also great cooking weather, so I hope my health holds out I had all sorts of meals planned before I got sick, and some of the food I bought for them went bad while I wasn't able to cook. Hate wasting food that way

I hope everyone is feeling better. I apologize on behalf of my gender for the inconveniences we give you ladies. (I know the difference between colds and the flu myself; as much as bad colds make me feel miserable, I can still function with a cold. If it knocks me out, leaving me with zero energy, it's the flu- but that rarely happens.) On a side note, I may be suffering from kidneystones, but I'm not 100% certain yet- I've been having a pain in my side, and I've been eating chocolate... WAY more than I should have. My daughter did a school project involving taste-testing various brands, and I could not help myself with the leftovers. I would only eat one small piece a day, but if I skipped a day, I would eat two the next one. This has been going on for about two weeks, and those samples all tasted so good! I should have shown more restraint, but when you get away with something, it snowballs. Right now I insisted on getting rid of the remaining samples and drinking lots of water. Currently the pain is only about a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10- mildly uncomfortable, and only intermittent. We'll see what develops in the next few weeks.

Oh no, sorry the kidneystones might be back - hopefully now you've removed temptation, you'll find the pains abate.
I'm surprised your daughter let you loose on it, my kids would have done everything in their power to convince everyone that it was their project so their samples!
