Just as a precaution, I went and got a booster shot for Covid today- the Pfizer variety. I wasn't sure if I should wait to see how bad the next variant is, but on the other hand the CDC is recommending one if you are eligible.
I managed to convince my wife to get hers as well, as she's leaving on vacation with my daughter in two days. I don't think the vaccine becomes effective in that time, but hopefully they'll both be okay. My daughter isn't eligible for a booster until early May, otherwise she would have gotten hers already.

Sounds like a good idea to get them when they're on offer. I hope if you get an achy arm or feel a bit off, it's worn off by the time you're due back at work.
How are you feeling about the others holidaying without you - miffed about missing out or looking forward to having the house to yourself for a few days?

How are you feeling about the others holidaying without you - miffed about missing out or looking forward to having the house to yourself for a few days? I don't mind at all. Part of me wishes I was getting away- it's been years now! But on the other hand, I get to have the house to myself and the guys, so there's that. I don't have to worry about getting my daughter to volleyball practice, or my wife complaining about something that doesn't matter in the long run. As long as it's safe enough to travel, maybe I'll get away this late summer/fall. My arm aches slightly, but I should be good to go to work tomorrow. If I could handle UPS after getting the shot, I should be able to withstand this gig.

We need to get the latest boosters. The info said 6 months after the last one, but we can't remember when we got the last one. I think it was November, so we should be eligible. I got the shingles vaccine and the pneumonia vaccine, too, which were at different times. The old memory just isn't good enough to sort them out without finding them in my schedule somewhere.
I hope they don't catch anything. The flu is also on the rise with the end of mask and social distancing mandates, so that's a factor in any crowd situation. We're also seeing the results of spring break at the colleges, with major COVID increases. Hopefully enough students were vaccinated to not be too sick.
You may find it really nice to have the house to yourself, be able to do or not do whatever you want, and just no have to deal with anyone else's issues. It's only for a short time.

Glad you're embracing the peace, and I hope it's not too long before you can get a break yourself - you've definitely earned one!
Good news your arm's not too sore. Did you get any extra days off for the Easter weekend? It's a Bank Holiday here so a lot of businesses are closed.

Almost all businesses used to close on Easter. Now most are open, certainly any who can get people to work. It's only a christian holiday, so everyone else is free to work if they want.

My workplace had the day off. I relished the time off, although I didn't exactly relax. I spent the day organizing things and shredding old bank statements. I'll be doing more of that this week as I noticed things are getting just a little too disorganized for my taste.

I have to get under the sinks and clean out all the cleaners we have, and have probably moved from house to house for years. It can be a bit daunting, so I'm glad you got the shredding started, so you can just work at it as you go

I'm getting enough sleep lately to get through the day- I turn in around 8:20 and I can fall asleep by 9. I wake up once or twice but usually fall right back to sleep until after 4am, and if that happens I can't get myself to sleep anymore. It's annoying when you realize you could be sleeping for at least another 45 minutes, but your body just won't obey. My alarm is set for 4:50, and I wouldn't mind being roused by the alarm, as that would mean I got over seven and a half hours. I believe I'm getting at least 6 and a half, sometimes seven hours. I don't feel tired when I get up, although the idea of falling back into bed is oh-so-tempting.

They say 6-8 hours sleep is ideal (I've never done as much as 8) so sounds like you're doing pretty well, even with the adjusted sleep window. Can you adapt at weekends so you could stay up later if you wanted, without getting thrown off the next night?

We're a bit skeptical of the 8 hours being so great. I know that's what all the experts say, but we've watched a lot of documentaries on sleep, and in general humans have never slept for 8 hours undisturbed or uninterrupted, as a norm. We've slept from sundown to sun up. We've slept from too dark to do anything indoors to light enough to see what we're doing. We've slept in shifts-during the middle ages people went to sleep at sundown, got up midway through the night and even visited people, got bread started, put on the stew to cook low and slow, etc., then went back to sleep. They probably got 6 hours at best, and did it in two sessions.
My Fitbit tracks my sleep, and breaks it into the different types of sleep. I generally get a few hours of good, light sleep each night, some deep sleep but not too much, some REM sleep but not that much, and I'm still rested and able to get through the day as I want and need to. It's the nights I just can't sleep that leave me too tired to function very well the next day, and I have those, but they aren't the norm.
I also do a lot of exercising during the day. Back when we plowed the lower 40 or dressed the slaughtered animals for keeping over the winter, etc., we did enough exercise just living that people probably slept pretty well. We've gone from living very physical lives to living rather sedentary lives, and while I think people have always had stress, I think the physical life style probably helped to counter a lot of the effects of the stress, so we no longer have that.
Doctors say to work out at least once a day, just to get all the systems in the body working at their peak, and help deal with the effects of stress and lack of exercise. While the extra income is great, hubby slept better when he was retired, lacked the stress and demands of working, and worked outside in the yard, inside doing what needed to be done, and just got a whole lot more exercise than he gets now. I took his Fitbit to work for two hours while he was in meetings. That's not as healthy for him as it is for me!
Hopefully, you'll get to know the routines around work well enough for that not to be stressful, and will be able to sort of schedule you're exercise to fit with what you did or didn't get during the day.
I totally know what you mean about waking before the alarm. I'm always awake. That's why we figured, if we're going to be awake at 4 a.m. anyway, why not get up and go swimming. On non-swim days, I go back to sleep for a bit.

Can you adapt at weekends so you could stay up later if you wanted, without getting thrown off the next night? On Fridays I try to stay up an extra 30 minutes, but it's not easy! On weekends I wake up between 6-6:30 am, and try to catch a 30 minute nap in the middle of the day. If I get my nap, I can go until midnight or even 1-2 am if I'm hanging out with friends that late. (But that doesn't happen too often!)

I try to stay on a basic schedule, so even if I don't have to be anywhere I get up at 5 a.m. and do the critters in the backyard. I've read that it's important for ADHD people to stay on a schedule. It sort of grounds the rest of each day. Hubby tends to sleep in whenever he can, or not get up and fall back to sleep. Then he doesn't sleep very well the next night.

I'd prefer to stay on a schedule, but I need more personal time on a weekend, so I arrange to be able to stay up later. Still, if I'm not with friends, I'll turn in around 11pm. Last night I think I got almost 8 hours, because I spent the evening doing some mental gymnastics (I was looking for some research material for a game and found it after several days) so add that to the physical labor and my whole body was ready to give up around 8pm. I turned in and fell asleep well before 8:30, and woke up around 4:30- 20 minutes before the alarm!

Although I wake off and on during the night, I'm usually awake and waiting for my alarm. This morning I got up with my alarm, but I wasn't ready for it. Kind of nice not to lie awake waiting.

I'm gingerly trying a very small exercise routine just to get myself acclimated to working out again. Right now it's just two minutes- about 20 pushups, 30 ab crunches and I hold a plank position for one minute. The real issue is the lack of cardio exercise, so I need to plan some sort of routine for that very soon. Probably just do a few minutes to get used to it. Small steps are still steps.

Anytime you're moving when you could be sitting down, it all counts! It's good you're feeling up to it again.

That's why we walk. We walk fast, get our heart beats going, get our breathing going, and just get some cardio. We're beyond pushups and things like that, but we can still walk, so we do. As Bean said, anything that gets you moving, gets your heart beating, is better than sitting around. Glad you're taking it slowly.

Got my covid booster shot today! Of course, since there's a new variant out there, this shot may possibly be not worth much, but it's better than nothing. If I need a new shot that can deal with the latest pain in the butt, I'll get it then.

I've not been offered another one yet (my last vaccine was over a year ago), but they were doing over 50s at the end of last year, so maybe I'll get an invite soon.
