Thanks guys!
Silvie is fine. When she was doagnosed, the levels of whatever it is that causes hyperthyroidism, were only just above normal, so it's been caught very early. We've been to see our new vet and discussed the treatment - she's investigating it for us. I've been waiting to hear back from her, but she's a locum vet at our new practice, who I understand is a phD student at the local vet hospital where the treatment would be done, so she's been great. Just unfortunate she seems to be a bit elusive!
Edit: Me and the locum vet just kept missing each other on the phone! So I finally spoke to one of the regular vets today and sorted out getting her registered for the treatment at the vet hospital. She's to go back to the local vets tomorrow for a repeat blood test, see where she's at, then a pre-treatment assessment at the vet hospital at the beginning of January befor getting the treatment, if she's accepted, in March. The assessment means she'll need to be in overnight - that'll be wierd! At least I've got the pigs to keep me company whilst she's gone this time!

I'm glad you know what the process will be, and when each stage will happen. I know how hard it is to have a pet in the hospital overnight. I always wanted to call mine and talk to them over the phone, lol. I hope her levels stay low, and she is okay with the treatment when she gets it. Hugs!!!

Never mind waiting until the weekend, Silvie has just presented me with the perfect photo opportunity! This is her getting comfy on a heap of the pigs' fleece and sleeping bags. She's about 6 feet up on the shelves having climbed up other stuff that's stacked in front of it - the level of the bunk bed which you can see on the left! The pigs live under the bunk bed (there's no bottom bunk - normal people would put a desk or a sofa there - my pigs live there!) so she's got a good view to keep a close eye on them form up there!

Hey Newpig - she's absolutely fine. Due for another blood test in a month or so.
Hi Jo - only the silver tabby and white (Silvie - pic a couple of posts up) is mine - the tortie (Taz - proper lives up to her name!) is my mum's and the others belong to various neighbours past and present!

Happy birthday Wee Silvie! She's nine years old today. Sometimes I feel like she's been here forever and I can't remember life without her, but then nine years seems like ages too!
And before anyone says, yes I know that's a cue for new photos - i'll get right on it soon as!

Silvie is of course very cuddly and Casper, the white one is too (out of necessity - every time I open the door to let Silvie out, he comes in and she doesn't like him so I have to lift him out!) But the black and white one is a different matter - its name is Ninja, for good reason!

You might remember that last year Silvie was diagnosed as hyperthyroid, but too borderline to warrant treatment. As such, she has been due blood tests at 6 monthly intervals to re-chack her levels.
her latest test was a couple of weeks ago - what a trauma! Took her to the local vet branch, where there were only two folk on, so theyd ecided that wasn't enough to get blood from a very wriggly Silvie. Although she manages to make a horrible blood-curdling noise whilst they were trying! So off we went to the big hospital branch where I had to check her in, in case she needed to be sedated. Whilst I was waiting to check her in, there were two young girls in the waiting area whose hamster was having to be put to sleep - they were completely distraught! Barely a dry eye in the house... So when Silvie was done (no sedation required, thankfully) I took her home and gave her a great big hug for those young girls and their hamster.
Got the test results during the week - she has passed with flying colours! Vet says Silvie is a bit of a mystery as her thyroid levels have actually gone down. But I'm not complaining, as it means she doesn't need treatment any time soon and we can go back to having blood tests just once a year - yey!

So glad Silvie is doing great. Seeing the trauma of loss does remind us how lucky we are to haver our pet pals.

Probably at least as traumatic for me as for her! But I'm glad she's ok - thanks all
