Thanks Katie, here is a list of UK Zoo's if you do decide to visit one www.zoos.bizland.com/alphabetical.htm As far as I know, Southport Zoo is the only one that has since closed down. Great videos Clover, thanks for thinking of me with the bouncy music!!! My favourite is the red panda. Wow it must be amazing to actually see one, maybe I will visit one day. I didn't realise they had tails. xx They are beautiful Donna, if you ever go to Chester Zoo they are just behind the Otters and are in a nice quiet area. Lucky you seeing the red panda. They have a pair at Belfast Zoo and I always rush round to see them but they hardly ever come out. I've seen one of them once and I can't believe how high they can climb. We had been 6 times before we saw thier enclosure Lesa as we kept reading the map wrong but we was very lucky to see one out when we finally found them. I think we've covered most of the Zoo but saying that we keep finding little corners we haven't seen. The new Cheetah area is lovely, hopefully I'll get to see them properly next time as they were hiding. I've a few video's and pics to upload from my last visit but here are lovely Flamingos, best turn your speaker down as they are just a tiny bit noisy lol

Ahhh, I miss the zoo. It is amazing. Your camera as an awesome zoom. I didn't realize that there was a red panda. The last time I went to the zoo, there was an animal named "Wild Dog." It looked... and smelled like a normal dog. I thought that was interesting that the name was so plain.

Lesa, did you have a nice time at the Zoo? would love to see pictures if you took any. msguineapiggie, I've seen the wild dogs at Chester but the ones I saw were golden/sandy colour and quite small. I love the African wild dog, just love any nature programmes about them. Here are a few pics from my last visit. Can't remember what these deer were called, they shared the same pen as the two one horned rhinos. Mr.Funny Face lol They wouldn't let me go in the Tigers enclosure so I had to be content with taking pics with the wire in front. Lovely Meerkat And a little Robin. I used the zoom to the max as he was some distance but it turned out well. Videos: For best results please click 'watch in high quality'
A gorgeous female Black Rhino came really close while I was filming her. You can hear my squeaky voice in this video. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=u2GAFQz314kA very cute Meerkat making me dizzy. She had the house to herself while the others were outside so I think she was making the most of it. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8XyxTaBl4PUAnd a video of the gorgeous Okapi uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi32xb1GLcM

Lovely pictures and vids Clover. The meercat really did give you the run around!!! Why do they call the Rhino a Black Rhino when it clearly isn't? Sorry if its a dumb question, but I thought you might know as you spend a lot of time with the animals at the zoo. xx

I'm not totally sure myself Donna but I think they called them black to distinguish them from the white as both are from Africa. Both white and black rhino's are similar in colour, I do know the black rhino is smaller, has pointy lips unlike the white and they are more on the endangered list. I'm feeling like David Attenborough everyday lol No seriously, I do enjoy reading about wildlife though.
Anymore questions? lol

Lol Donna, I might just make their lifespan...just lol Phew glad you had a couple of the answers, I'd have had to go searching lol Here are some pictures and video's from our last visit. My daughter Kathy took the first 4. Zebra's, just love the shots, awww Cheeky Meerkat, isn't she adorable!! and a female parrot, will find out her official name next time we go. and my pics, the male. We had to take the shots through tiny holes, but they came out really well. Now the Otters, just loved taking pics and video's. Video below. A lovely Onager. Video below. and the lovely Marmot I filmed this adorable Otter playing with a pebble in the water, she should play for Manchester United lol You'll also hear the noisiest bird at Chester Zoo in the background. Will try to video the parrot next time. The other noises are the other Otters. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2lSFoxA9Hm4And an Onager chasing another. Best not have your speakers on full volume at the begining, very cute sound though. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JyXH5pLScnE

I missed these new ones - sorry. All lovely as usual and love the zebra rolling around.
I forgot to tell you that you must have brought us good luck the last time we went to Belfast Zoo - we saw the Red Pandas - YAY - they were clambering about in the trees.

Great pictures and videos once again clover. I love the ongars the best, I have got a thing about donkies, I love them so much. The zebras were just posing for the camera, they are so comical rolling over like that.
Newpig - I am glad you got to see the red pandas when you went to the zoo. I still haven't ever seen a panda, but hopefully will one day soon.
Clover - are you sure you don't live at the zoo? I wish I did.

Wow, I missed this thread and started from the beginning. What great pics and the camera does a fabulous job. The pic of the otters all lined up on the log couldn't have been better if you could have asked them to pose for you, lol.
I love all the Marmot pics, as I love them, anyway. I haven't watched Meerkat Manor because of the snakes. I know, there are a lot more meerkats than snakes, but it only takes one snake to do me in.
The red panda is so cute, and I love the guanacos galloping around. That looks like a really great zoo. I haven't been to a zoo in 25 years. The last time we went, all the animals were sleeping and it was really boring. They were also in too small enclosures, and I think they were as bored as we were. Maybe hub and I can do some zoo tours, once we get our finances back to normal.

Aw Jackie! I did watch your video's but I didn't type out a relpy. I was on limited time with the grandkids this week so I am popping on and off when I can.
I love them both! Was that one Onager chasing the other one being mean? It looked like the one being chased was trying to give the other one a kick and a nip, trying to tell it to back off!
I wish I could have so much fun in the water with a pebble like that cute little Otter!
Love the Meerkat too! I also have some lovely footage of Meerkats from my wild animal park visit. You must see them! I'll post them sometime today so stay tuned!

Aww don't worry Val, I know how busy you are. I'm not totally sure if the Onager was being mean to the other, the one being chased did kick out (I turned my camera off by then) but then they suddenly settled down and grazed so if it was an argument it was soon forgotton. Just seen your lovely Meerkat video, so adorable I forgot to tell you that you must have brought us good luck the last time we went to Belfast Zoo - we saw the Red Pandas - YAY - they were clambering about in the trees. Oh thats great Lesa, did you manage to take any pics or footage? Clover - are you sure you don't live at the zoo? I wish I did. Lol Donna, well I tried hiding in a Marmot tunnel at closing time, but the staff found me Wow, I missed this thread and started from the beginning. What great pics and the camera does a fabulous job. The pic of the otters all lined up on the log couldn't have been better if you could have asked them to pose for you, lol. Thank you 3piggles, so glad your enjoying the thread. Yes nearly all the Otters lined up for me (I think they know me well now lol), they can be so quick though, quite a few of my pics came out fuzzy with them being so fast.

Oh thats great Lesa, did you manage to take any pics or footage? No - it was on the little school trip we went on so was far too busy chasing kids around The prairie dogs there had also had babies so that was so lovely as had never seen babies before in them and the Meerkats were also out loads that day.

Both white and black rhino's are similar in colour, I do know the black rhino is smaller, has pointy lips unlike the white and they are more on the endangered list. Hope you don't mind my butting in here, but Jackie is right. I was just at my San Diego Wild Animal Park and they had 2 White Rhinos there. While on the tour the park official said that the White Rhino is very much on the endangered list. In fact there are only 20 White Rhino's left in the world! Any breeding programs have failed in captivity since the ones that they have are all so old in age. Soon White Rhino's will be no more. It really is sad. Jackie, I hope you don't mind but just for the sake of reference I've posted my picture of the White Rhino I took while at the park. If you rather I didn't please feel free to delete it. Did you know that they move their ears independently of each ear? It is really cute the way they can twitch them in different directions at the same time, it's like little rudders trying to fly off! lol Aww Jackie all your pictures are so much better than mine! What kind of camera do you have?

So sad to think that a creature with such ancient history is almost gone thanks entirely to human beings.

No of course I don't mind Val, aww its a lovely picture. So cute Rhino's can move their ears separately. I've just found out after reading your post Val that its the northern white Rhino thats in critical danger and its the southern white Rhino that is ok and has the largest numbers of all Rhino's. I didn't realise there were two sub-species to the white Rhino but remember reading that the white was ok so just did a bit research. The black Rhino has four sub-species. Your park gets a mention about your two Rhino's Val www.rhinos-irf.org/en/cms/?304Here is the page about the southern white Rhino. www.rhinos-irf.org/en/cms/?302And the White Rhino www.rhinos-irf.org/white/Chester Zoo has black Rhino's and two Indian one horned Rhino. The one horned Rhino looks like its wearing a suit of armour Black Rhino We'll be Rhino experts eventually won't we lol They are wonderful animals though aren't they. Beckee, thank you and hope you get to your Zoo and take lots of pics for us. This is my camera Val www.ukdigitalcameras.co.uk/prod.asp?i=3955&srccode=cii_18510613&cpncode=07-55928633-2I'm so chuffed with it, the Zoom is good although the longer the distance and depending on the light, the quality is affected. I'm also pleased with the movies, very natural colours and clear.

Jackie that really is all very interesting about the two different species of white. Now that you mention it I do recall our tour guide saying Northern White Rhino that's in critical danger. After reading that link you posted I now even feel very lucky that I was able to actually see a Northern White Rhino with my very own eyes. Soon we will never see this magnificent animal alive anymore. It really is a shame that zoo officials have tried and tried to get them to breed in captivity but have failed. Our tour guide said that the male and female that the park has are now quite old and will not be able to produce offspring. Yes Jackie, I think we will all become Rhino experts. Just going to the park and talking about it here has really brought a whole new meaning to them for me. I just adore seeing the one horned Rhino who looks like its wearing a suit of armour That is so wonderful to see!

Why do they call the Rhino a Black Rhino when it clearly isn't? Sorry if its a dumb question, but I thought you might know as you spend a lot of time with the animals at the zoo. xx Donna, I don't know why they call them black but I did find this information about why they call the white rhino white, when it clearly is not. I found this on one of Jackie's links so I'm sure it is factual.
