How do you feed them that! Do you just put the whole corn cob in there? Or cut it?

I put some husks in at a time, because too much causes mushy poos. If giving them the kernels, I cut an ear in about 1 inch sections, and give them one each at a time

By the time Lacy and Darcy are through with the corn on the cob, there is only a miniscule piece left, it really is a shadow of its former self LOL!!

WOW, I had no idea about corn on the cob, husks, silks and all. I'll have to try that. Thanks for the advice on how to serve it. How often can they eat it?

Like any new food, start off with small amounts, and build up slowly. Watch for mushy poos

The whole cob can be eaten? Huh. All this time I thought it was just the husks....

The actual kernels have a great deal of sugar in them, so if feeding the cob and kernels, cut it into sections. Don't feed the whole ear at once. The husks can be fed more aggressively, as they are fibrous greens.

My two piggies and bunny shared part of one ear yesterday and it went down very well. Paul keeps buying the ones without the silk on though, I will have to remind him next time.

My boys love their corn, its one of the only things that takes them a little bit of time to eat, so its one of my favorite treats to give them too, because most things are gone so darn quickly lol.

Corn has gotten really expensive here, and I'm not sure why. 5 for $3 is really pushing it for our consumption, much less as piggy treats It also hasn't been very tasty for that price. I'm hoping the local corn will be available soon, and it will at least be tasty

Paul does the shopping and I will ask him if he has noticed a rise in the price of corn. Ours get through theirs quite quickly which reminds me, they have one in the fridge that I must take out and give to them when it has warmed up a little.

After reading this thread, I went and got an ear of corn and gave two slices to the boys. At first they smelled it and then ran away. They eventually came back and ate it all. It was fun to watch to watch them slowly eat it away. Whats it worth...after the above, my vet told me that I shouldn't be feeding corn to the boys because of the sugars in them. I always thought that the reason to watch the sugars was because of the risk of diabetes. Turns out it is because the sugars feed the bacteria in their digestive system and multiply to an unhealthy level. One of the bi-products is gas. Since the piggies can't get rid of gas via burping or farting, it creates problems for them. The net result is that I'm not removing corn, carrots, etc from their diet, but have greatly restricted the amounts.

Silamb, I cut about an inch of the corn ear for each pig. I haven't had any problems with bloating. Everything in moderation, as you said

Sometimes you don't know what to do do you, you think you have something right and you read or hear that it is not? I entirely agree, nothing in moderation is going to do any harm.

I know what you mean, Jo. The dangers of too much Vitamin A seemed to be a known among piggy owners, but I researched it anyway. I found as many official studies promoting lots of A for strong bones and teeth, as I found connecting A with internal organ failure. Better safe than sorry but within reason?

Spot on love, I think most things in moderation are all right, as long as it isn't totaly banned of course.
