Ive never had issues with the boys with bloating from having treats. They love corn.
If you remove everything that they could possibly bloat from, they would have a boring, boring diet.

It's more about starting them on very small amounts, and increasing slowly until the get bloated or mushy poos. If they have trouble right off, either that piece is too big, or they can't tolerate it. No need to ban all the gaseous stuff, just let them get used to it

I agree Alfonzpig love, their little lives have to be worth living. Imagine if we had none of the things we enjoy. Mine do not have problems either 3piggles hun but if ever they did, I would obviously think again.

Thank you for the advice. That makes a lot of sense. I used to feed the boys lots of cucumbers and carrots. I never saw evidence of mooshy poos or bloating.
Now that I write this, I'm starting to wonder about something. What do you mean by mooshy poos? I've accidentally stepped on fresh poos and those flattened. Is that what you mean?

Mushy is not diarrhea but not well formed and soft-solid either. The poos often stick together in a kind of formless mass.

Thanks 3piggles for the explanation. I'm happy to report that my boys haven't had mushy poos nor diarrhea.

My boys are doing well.
They are not enjoying our up and down weather right now.
Unfortunately Jellybean's age is starting to show, as far as I can guess closely, he is about 6 or so. He is slowing down. I try to give him more love, and care, but he has started sleeping more often, and eating less. He is otherwise healthy, but slowing down.

It's sad to think about them crossing, but I prefer to have the warning and the time to give them lots of extra cuddles.

I find it very difficult to deal with the possibility of losing one of my boys. They bring me so much joy every day. I give him extra love, and talk to him when I pass him by. He is a little more chipper this past week, but I still worry alot.

It is the horror we all have to face love and it is hard hitting. I am glad the little chap seems brighter and I am keeping him in my prayers.

Thanks Jo. He has been a little brighter recently, but as far as I can tell he is rather old for a piggy, and he doesn't seem to have gotten the best care before I got him, so I really feel I extended his life already, so I just have to wait and see how he continues to do.
On the other hand Alfonz and Marbles are as chipper and annoying as ever lol, always squeaking away demanding food stuff lol. Still have to keep the separated as Marbles hormones are rampant lol, hopefully soon they can go back to being cage buddies.

Just how much medical attention to get them can be quite a conundrum when they are old or have always had endless health problems. When my Molly started to go downhill, I pretty much decided to keep her as comfy as possible, but not to try to fix her. She had major, chronic health problems from the time I got her. She wouldn't get any better. It doesn't make it any easier to lose them, but I sometimes think we try too hard to keep them alive at any cost, so we don't miss them. I just can't do that. He loves you and has a great life. He's happy. That's what counts.

Yeah I am not going to stress Jellybean by trying to "fix" him. This town doesnt know enough about guinea pigs, and Jellybean is older as it is. He is comfortable, happy and healthy, so I am just going to keep loving him, and he can keep loving me.

My oldest girl Osaka is 6 1/2 years old now, and I've noticed her slowing down too. I was ordering pellets for my girls and noticed Oxbow came out with a new "treat" type of thing in their Natural Science line called Senior Support. I decided to give it a shot. After a few days, I've seen her energy levels improve immensely! She's been so bright, and popcorning with my younger girls again. I highly recommend it now! I think they could really help your baby, too. I think it's about $7 for a container of 60, very much worth it to me.

Wow! That signs like a great senior treat. I'll look for it. I have no idea how old my pigs are. All rescue pigs.

I'm going to look for that senior treat too...I wasn't aware of it! My Bedhead is also 6 1/2 years old and I've noticed her slowing down and sleeping alot the past 6 months or so. So much so that I was really surprised my other pig, who was the same age, passed first. But she still has a voracious appetite and wheeks for veggies all the time so I think she must feel fine.

We have one little piggy live to over eight and until the last few days of her life, she was hale and hearty and loving her food.

It also helps to vary their environment and see if that gets them popcorning. They need stimulation, or they get bored. After 4 or 5 years old, though, I don't think a little energy boost hurts.
