I realize that I've become a REAL softie for guinea pigs. A year ago I wasn't doing more than just encouraging my daughter to give her guinea pig an occasional vegetable snack. Now, not only am I in charge of regular snacks schedules for TWO cavys, I'm even bringing them their goodies on a plate like I'm a waiter at an exclusive restaurant. All I need is a towel draped over an arm. Not that I'm complaining, mind you- I'm loving every second of it.

Yodelpig's still around and pigged up, but has less time these days so we don't see her on Wheekers so much - she's still active on another rescue-friendly forum she helps run if you want to find her, 3piggles might know which one?
Happy new year everyone! It's been a slow start to the day here as we all stayed up to see the new year in last night - grown ups toasted the new year with a snifter, the kids did the Spanish 12 grapes of luck thing (you eat a grape every time the clock chimes at midnight and it brings you luck for the year - the first few go down fine but by the end it seems an unnatural pace to eat grapes at!).
Is anyone bothering with resolutions?!

I will check for the forum Yodelpig is on. She also writes the Wiebkes Tribe section for Guinea Pig Magazine, and supports a rescue for pigs with problems that keep them from being adoptable. She currently has between 10 and 15 pigs, some from the rescue for unadoptable piggies. Most of her tribe have cataracts, maybe deafness. Nothing that keeps them from living good lives. They just need some different considerations than the rest. If I can find the name of the rescues, I'll post them for you

Good luck with it! I started hula hooping last year - it's a weighted one for exercise and although it doesn't feel like aerobic exercise, it's really good at toning up the old abs. I sometimes do it if there's something I want to watch on tv, or while I'm chatting to the kids after school (although not when their friends are round, apparently that would be embarrassing?!). It's relatively easy to incorporate it into my day a few times a week. I need to step up with my yoga though as I've slacked off the last few months and it really does make a difference to how limber I feel.

Around here, walking is a popular kind of exercise. It's not unusual to see couples or families out walking together in the evening. Not just a casual stroll but at a relatively fast pace. It's not really a young person's exercise though. Not cool enough I looked into it myself and apparently the best time is about 15 minutes after you finish eating. This helps to lower your blood sugar level. I tried this for about a month and I did feel fitter; not sure if I looked slimmer The most important thing is keeping a brisk pace to burn off these calories. Of course, I've been slacking for too long. It's hard to keep the routine. And summer is too hot. Now it's winter I shouldn't have any excuses!

I walk a lot, especially when the kids are at school, but rarely after meals - I like to have a good sit down after my evening meal. That probably means I'm eating more than I need to, but hey ho!

We walk a lot, though I have good days and bad days. We each have a Fitbit, so we track how far we walk per day. We also walk for a rabbit rescue in California, through an app called ResQwalk. We figured if we were going to walk anyway, why not have it benefit a rescue.

All my good friends being disciplined with their exercises LOL!! I am not making any resolutions as I know I won't stick to them. My ability to exercise is very limited though due to my illness but I start at the hydropool next week and I am looking forward to it very much.

Sounds great Jo - hope it's lovely and warm! Let us know how you get on.
I've just made myself a chart for reminding myself to do things I should be, or would like to be, doing on a regular basis but never seem to get round to with family life, work, the house, the animals and some voluntary commitments. I have study, exercise and also some creative pursuits on there. It's in the same vein as one I made when I was studying at school and university - where each category (or subject in the case of study) has a certain number of boxes to be ticked each week when I've spent an allotted amount of time on it (could just be one or might be four depending on what it is). I don't usually do resolutions but I do need a kick up the bum at the moment - there are only so many years you can talk about doing something without actually pulling your finger out! Anyway hopefully this chart will give me a nudge and establish some more productive routines!

I will do Bean love. I am a great one for lists, things I need to do and get etc and I find it makes the tasks less daunting. I tick off boxes too when I have done something I set out to do which helps me to complete the next task. I have just made a list of things we need generally and whilst I was going over them in my mind, I was panicking wondering how we are going to get them all but once I made a list convinced myself I would just get what i can when I can.

Glad your lists work for you, Jo. I find them good for house jobs that need doing - otherwise when I get a bit of time do do something, my head spins with all I need to do and I just end up having a cuppa and a slice of cake instead!

I've used the calendar on my Google account for years. It lets me set the time I want to alot, if I want to repeat it and how often, remind me of TV shows I want to watch, etc. I have Clean Cage, Get out to walk, check bank accounts, and other regular reminders, and I've worked out when I'm actually likely to do those things, and put the reminders for that general time. If I have to slip a task, I don't erase the reminder until it's done, so it keeps haunting me until I do it. I have to be very organized, or I won't accomplish anything. Hubby is having trouble understanding that, as being retired has few regular tasks to accomplish. After working for so many years, it's hard to suddenly have to schedule your own time. I've been doing it for years, but he's still trying to get the knack of it I really hope the hydro therapy helps with the pain. It's supposed to have a lot of benefits. I'll keep all my fingers crossed for it to help you

I could do with a calendar that shouts at me when I need to know a friend's birthday or something, and continues to do so until I have acknowledged it LOL!! Yes Bean love, lists work for me, I find once I have made one I am much calmer.
Arrived at my hydrotherapy session this morning and was all flustered with the changing room, not being able to take my own walking aid in, found my swimming costume didn't fit (my own fault for being such a bloody pig and I must have looked like a beached whale) and then I was only in there for about 10 minutes. I think they wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible LOL!! Further sessions next week although I can honestly say it has made no difference to my pain. Thank you ladies for your kindness.
Hugs JO xx
