Hi and welcome! I hope that you will like it on here. Your girls are very pretty indeed! You must be so chuffed about having them! The cuddling pic with all four of them together is ever so cute! Did you choose the names? PS: I went strictly rescue after one of my first shop bought couple of girls promptly had surprise babies. While they were properly sexed and neatly separated in the shop and at the breeders, this was not the case during transport, as I found out when I complained!

"I love food, but then I am working hard on becoming a big girl!" "Oops!" "Hey!!!" "Leftovers - what is that?" "This is the 'gate house' by the entrance, and it is my favourite spot." "Has mummy given up on grooming me yet?" "Even the outdoors is not so frightening anymore... ... except for the odd bug... ... but nothing is better than being part of a big scrum!" "Yeah, life is pretty good - if you discount the grooming!!!" "And if you get the impression that I am spending a lot of time with beauty sleep, you are right - much better than mummy's attempts with brush and scissors, if you ask me!!!"

Why breed if you know the risks? Or do you think it won't happen to you? I can assure you that those risks are REAL and the odds that it can happend to your piggies are higher than you think! While this forum is open to everybody, we do not support breeding and won't promote breeding advice. Here are the rules: wheekers.proboards32.com/index.cgi?board=feedback&action=display&thread=1115110963I also want to point out that you will have to separate your piggies before birth - and your boy WILL NOT like that. If you leave him in with mummy-to-be because you can't stand seeing him unhappy, you not only risk a back-to-back pregnancy with an even higher likeliness of things going wrong, apart from it being an enormous drain on mummy's body (and she is in no position to complain loudly about that it is HER life that is being put at risk!!!) But you also risk inbreeding, as neither daddy nor any sons will hesitate to mate with mums/baby daughters from 3 weeks (boys) to 4 weeks (girls) onwards. Sows come into season again within hours of giving birth. Have you thought what you are going to do if you end up with 5-7 pups, which is entirely possible? Can you find GOOD homes for them all where they are not in any danger of being neglected as soon as interest wanes? Keep in mind that many of your mates who might like a pup or two will retract when it comes to taking them home and facing the parents! If you ever want your two to live together permanently, you have to have your male neutered and then wait for 4-6 weeks after the op until he is safe to go with girls. Have you got the money for that and have you got the additional money to pay for a c-section or any op due to complications? Or will you just stand by watching helplessly how your girl and her pup(s) die a horrible, painful death? Please consider well what you are going to do those piggies of yours who you say you love!

Hello Sushi and Sushi owner!
Sushi sounds like a delightful scamp!
There are quite a few breeds of guinea pigs (just look at my motley crew) and colourings.
Sushi is a variation of smooth with red dutch markings, but with gold agouti mixed in (that is the black tipped hair). What a little cutie!
Personally, I would be careful about giving her too much fruit. The acidity can cause mouth sores and too much sugar could cause diabetes.

Please have your piggy checked by a vet and weigh her daily until it is eating properly again.
Make sure that your dog can't get at your piggy in the future. And that it has somewhere it can feel safe and protected.
Hopefully, it'll come out of itself soon again. Fright CAN kill! The prey animal instinct runs still very strong.

The vet will also check with die whether the cornea is ulcerated.
Thankfully, with the right treatment, eye infections go down as quickly as they come on. I find that the best way of getting the gel into the eye is by distracting the piggy with some grass on a plate on my lap.

I think that you are doing everything you can.
One thing to check - how quickly turn your pellets to mush when in contact with water? I know that some pellets are actually quite soft when chewed - Burgess Excel, for instance while others are much harder and are more of a chew.
Best of luck for tomorrow!

Hywel is currently like a big kid in a candy shop - he is testing how much he can get away with with the girls and is not holding his punches...

I bathe my piggies about as often as the others - whenever they feel really dirty or have a medical skin problem, whatever comes first. It is usually 2-3 times a year for the shorthair piggies.
If necessary, you can always give your boy a bum bath to clean his soiled back end. Please check the grease gland about an inch over his privates on the back regularly; that can clog up rather badly.

Awww - what a gorgeous pair!!! Welcome Fleur and Violet! Enjoy being pampered pets!
At least, they come from a conscientious breeder who seems to have cared for them well and has not overbred them, like so many sadly do.

He is a beautiful boy! I would not recommend putting him with a girl unless you are planning to have him neutered first - then he can live with as many girls as you wish! (Just look at my Hywel, newpig's Dexter or 3piggles Morty!) Otherwise, you will have to separate him anyway before birth - and he will NOT like that - because girls come into season within hours of giving birth and baby girls can get pregnant as early as 4 weeks (boys start from 3 weeks old!). Back-to-back pregnancies REALLY take it out of the girls! I have seen things go horribly wrong for people who just wanted to have "one lot of babies"; it's franky not worth the comparatively high risk and the heartbreak if that happens! In a few weeks, Swag should be over the worst of the big hormones and you can then bond him with a baby boar, so there is never more than one boy in the stroppy age, which helps a lot with cutting down on any problems. The other big factor is lots of space. Hi and welcome to Wheekers! Hugo is a cutie! If you want to check his sex when he is settling down a bit, use this link here; it contains pictures of guinea pigs of all ages. www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htmIf you think of getting him a friend at some stage (and you will enjoy the lively vocal interaction between guinea pigs, as that is what makes them so unique and special), you need to sort out his gender beforehand.
